My Hammond Model 146K stopped playing..It was starting to have some static when playing and then just stopped Is there a solution
Make sure it is unplugged to do the mentioned below
Output transformer could have blown. I'm not familiar with that model but if it's tube, look at the power tube Or tubes. A blown tube may look blackish. These are the bigger tubes on the amplifier. If it's a pre amp tube, the smaller tubes, probably a 12AX7 or 7025, check those. Sometimes when they blow they'll turn white inside from over heating.
Before you have it repaired by a pro, get some "electronic" parts cleaner, available at any car parts place or Walmart. Get the kind with a picture of plugs on it. Not a generator.., cvc is like that. It leaves no residue. If it's a tube circuit pull the tubes out if the chassis is engraved with the correct tubes numbers so you don't get them mixed up. If not just pull each tube out about halfway. You'll have to "wiggle " them loose.
Spray the chassis and tube pins and WIPE the chassis. For Each tube, spray the pins and push the tubes in and out in a slight circular motion.
What happens is with time, certain chassis metals form crystals on them and slight dust forms on the chassis, when it's humid, the only slight humidity actually can cause a short between the tubes and chassis.
Your exact predicament happened to me years ago on my B3 and none of us guys could figure out what happened to my perfectly sounding B3. I called a Hammond professional repair man and he said I'll be up, I know exactly what's going on. In a half hour the problem was fixed.
If it's a transistor amp, you'll have to call someone.
also, tube or transistor, transistors, resistors and capacitors can leak over time causing such problems. Output transformers also blow.
