Hayward 1 12 Hp Super Swimming Pool Pump Sp2610x15 Questions & Answers
Is a knob that won't tighten on hayward pump normal wear and tear?
it is possible that the knob was overtightened. check the slipping knob to see if there is a crack in the shaft. the other option is that it is stripped.
either way, it will not be considered normal wear but you should be able to find a replacement knob at your local store
Skimmer won't circulate
If you are still having problems please post more info. Does circulation seem normal at pool inlet returns? Do you have full prime at pump?
Need to wire pump to switch
take a picture or two of your pump and wiring and go to your local ace hardware. so yes you can but it takes a high amp switch, and some extra fittings and a box to hold the switch. jay
Pump stops suction when I try to vacum pool
1. Something is stopping the seal at the basket2. The hose going to the filter housing is partially clogged or not sealed3. If you have a 2nd filter basket before filter housing, clogged/not sealed4. Filter is clogged and needs to be cleaned, not just dirt, but degreased5. Leaking pressure valve if one is usedI had a large filter and regular pressure was well above 5 psi, (8 to 10psi) with everything cleaned and running, once vacuum hose was connected it jumped to 14 to 18 psi.
I shut off my pump
I suspect you had air trapped in the filter. When the pump shut down, the compressed air in the filter pushed back, turned the pump backwards, and unscrewed the impeller off the motor shaft. This particular pump doesn't use an impeller screw which prevents this from happening. You will have to pull the pump apart to see if this is the cause. I have seen this happen many times.
My pump is leaking .What causes that and how do I
Thank youfor posting your question here on Fixya.com.
The leak is likely caused by a defective pump seal. If you look at the parts breakdown at http://www.star-pool.com/assets/Hayward-Pool/Hayward-Manuals/Hayward-SP2610X15-Super-Pump-Parts-Diagram.pdf you can see the seal and the other parts that must be separated in order to replace the seal.
THE HARD WAY!
Once you are sure the seal is defective you need to buy a new one along with a diffuser gasket, a pump housing gasket and some pump gasket grease.
The 4 housing cap screws and the impeller must be removed in order to remove the 4 motor cap screws. The hardest part of this process is removing the impeller. The cover on the other end of the motor should be removed and the motor shaft held with a wrench. The impeller must then be removed by turning it with a large pump pliers or by inserting a screw driver into one of the holes on the outer edge of the impeller in order to turn it counterclockwise with the shaft held with the wrench. If this damages the impeller it should be replaced.
Now remove the 4 motor cap screws and everything is apart except the seal. Half of the seal can be removed from the motor shaft and the other half from the seal plate. Placing a socket on the back side of the seal that is on the seal plate allows the seal to be removed by tapping it with a heavier tool (hammer or pump pliers). Clean this area, apply a little silicon adhesive to the area and insert the new seal half into the seal plate using the instructions that are included with the seal.
Use pump gasket grease on the pump impeller gasket and reassemble the completely reassemble the pump.
THE EASY WAY!
Remove the piping from the motor and the electrical conduit and wires from the end of the motor. Bring the pump to Leslies pool supplies (I don't work there or own any of their stock) . If they are not very busy then they will do the above and only charge you for the parts while you wait.
I have replaced so many seals I almost always do it myself at the pool site but it is not easy for the first timer.

The pump is just humming
if the capacitor did not work, your bearings are probably seized and you either need to have the bearings replaced or buy a new motor.
I have a 1.5hp elect
Usually the wiring diagram for the motor is shown on the motor nameplate or inside the motor end cover. Unfortunately the diagram is not in the owners manual but this document should be read because it provides safety information. For this motor running at 110VAC, the manual recommends using 10 gauge wiring. Most pumps are wired using 12 gauge wires. Also, if a 20A breaker trips then a higher breaker may need to be used. If you are making wire or breaker changes then you need to have an electrician do the job. I hope this help.
Live in florida - pool pump goes off for a half
it does sound like overheating. runs for a while, trips the high limit, then cools and restarts. this could be a supply power problem, under sized wiring, or loose or damaged terminals associated with the wiring.
Does one need to change
No. The only lubrication is found in the form of grease inside the sealed bearings. You cannot relubricate them. If they are getting noisy you need to have them replaced before they end up causing more damage.

I have a Max-Flow pump
The problem with sizing between a pump and a filter is if you have too big a pump it can damage the filter. The pump should more be sized according to size of the pool and therefore if the turnover rate is good enough. If you are getting adequate cleaning and chlorination with this pump then it is just fine. On the other hand you could have a problem with the system. The filter could be in need of cleaning, air could be getting into the suction, or the pump impeller could be plugged, etc.
I hope this helps.
My hayward 1hp super pump
Inside pump is a difram , it most likely is stuck, some times if you shut off pump, turn back on a few times it might release itself, but most likely needs to be replaced. Let me know, mike from fixya.com
How do I remove impeller
The impellar spins off counterclockwise on most pumps. The hard parts are holding the motor shaft from rotating and finding a way to grip the impellar.
