I have a Toro GTS5 Super Recycler mower model

I have a Toro GTS5 Super Recycler mower model #20487. I recently changed the oil, plug, gasoline, air filter, primer bulb, and cleaned the jet in the carb. When starting the mower it starts and then shuts down after about 3 seconds. It will stay running if I continue to prime the mower. Everything I have read references cleaning the jets, but mine is free of any blockage. Any thoughts for me? Thank you.

Hi ricks7...
I also believe that it is a problem with the jets.
Try some of these solutions
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Check/Clean/Replace your fuel filter if you have one, normally they are located in the fuel tank of weedeaters.
Also make sure you are using fresh fuel...and oil mix if your using a two cycle mower or weedeater with the oil to the right mixture and not too much oil as it can cause hard starting.
If the mower/weedeater is over a year old, then I recommend that you buy and install a new carburetor repair kit, because the diaphragm will get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
Sounds like you will need to clean the carburetor or replace your carburetor internal rubber parts like the diaphgram and O rings.
I recommend that you use a laquer thinner type cleaner to clean and dissolve the laquer build-up in the float and needle jet passages.
Be sure to remove all plastic and rubber parts before using the laquer thinner because it can dissolve the plastic parts and render them unuseable.
Be sure to use compressed air to blow out all the fuel and air passages.
Be careful when blowing out the passages, because there are sometimes small rubber type seats in the bottom of some of the passages.
Sometimes you can get by with priming the carburetor or using starting fluid and letting it run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets, but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
Keep in mind that the float for the carburetor must be level when you go to reassemble the carburetor or follow the instructions you get with the carburetor kit.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, you will first need to lightly seat the jet screws.
But before you lightly seat the jet screws count the number of turns it takes to seat the jet screws from their original position.
Be sure to mark the turns down on a piece of paper.
That way when you put the jets back in, you know to lightly seat them first and then turn them back out to their orginal position before you started.
Once you have your carburetor rebuilt that should solve your problem.

lawn mower wont pick up the clippings

lawn mower wont pick up the clippings

if you have ever mowed your lawn when it was wet, you might have formed a clog in the pipes to the clipping catcher. Make sure that the mower is OFF (so you don't chop off your hands) and take a look at the bottom of the mower -- if there is a lot of grass stuck there, you probably have a clog. Clean out the grass from the bottom of the mower, and remove the bag. Make sure that the opening from the base of the lawnmower to the bag is totally clear and give it another shot.
If it is not this, are the clippings just clumping up on the ground as you mow the lawn? or are they being thrown around the yard like they have no direction as to where to go?
If the connection between the mower and the bag are clear, and the grass is just clumping as you cut it, there might be some sort of blockage that you did not notice, keeping the clippings from going where they are supposed to. Make sure you have your bag hooked up properly, and that the clippings have a clear path to the bag. If there is still no love on it, you will probably have to see a repair professional so they can give it a good look (it's tough to resolve complex issues over the internet).
If the grass is not clumping when cut, but is being tossed in all directions instead of being directed to the bag, then you will have to take it in for service -- this would seem to indicate that the mower blades have somehow become distorted and the air flow that you need (to direct the clippings) is not being directed properly. A professional repair person would have to have a chance to see the mower in action to find out what is wrong (once again, it's difficult to fix something you can't see). Good luck ... hopefully it's just a clog (it happens to me all the time).

Hi steve16092...
You may have MAJOR damage to your motor because of overfilling the oil.
Sometimes you can bend or break a piston rod when the engine is overfilled.
Meanwhile you can check a few other things.
Take your plug out and ground it against the head of the engine with the spark wire attached to it.
You should get a bright blue spark, if not then check your ignition module, it may be faulty.
If you have spark, then try putting a little bit of lighter fluid/or gasoline in the cylinder and reinstall the plug and try to crank it...if it cranks, then you may need to clean/rebuild your carburetor.

toro leaking gas through air filter

My Toro 190cc mower with a Briggs and Stratton engine is leaking fuel from the air filter without the engine even running. The mower worked perfectly when I last used it in the fall and I drained all of the remaining fuel from the tank before I stored it in my basement for the winter. Gassed the mower up fro the first time this season and it immediately started to leak fuel from the air filter before I even tried starting the engine. What could be causing this leak? Thank you.

The inlet needle in the carb is leaking, it may be the activating arm has stuck, remove the float bowl and gently work the float up and down a few times, make sure the needle is moving. Failing that replace the needle valve.

Black carbon fouling on the plug is a sign of the engine running too rich, start by replacing the air filter and plug and try again.
