If you have good fuel to the plug and a good spark and it still does not start it could be a timing issue, check the flywheel key has not sheared.

Toro 6.5hp 22" Recycler model#20072 Self-prpel

John, adjusting the cable would have been my first suggestion as well, there are two screws accesible from under the deck to get the black cover off (one of them is in a corner and may be hard to see). Once you get the cover off you may be able to see if you may have a tension problem, belt problem, etc. Goodluck!

After mowing a heavy clump

Ouch! Is the clanking sound coming from the blade / deck or is it in the engine. It sounds like you hit a stump or a rock in that tall grass and stopped the blade. Under normal operation, what is suppose to happen is that the timing key will break off and you can replace it. If not, then usually the crank shaft will get bent and in such case, you probably need to replace the engine. It is also possible that on the lighter side, something got knocked out of kilter and the blade is hitting the deck on one side. Look underneath and turn the blade AFTER YOU REMOVE THE SPARK PLUG WIRE!!! NEVER EVER TURN THE BLADE WITH THE PLUG WIRE ATTACHED; THE ENGINE COULD START AND CUT OFF YOUR HAND!!! See if the blade is hitting anything in its full revolution. If it is, it'll make a hell of a racket. Good Luck.

Mower wont start changed plug still wont start checked gas line seemed okay but what is that plastic piece in the line never seen one before

Getting a mower out of its winter slumber takes some time. Start with fresh gas, new oil, and air filter. Sometimes carbs get gummed up(varnisized gas). Donyboy73 on youtube shows how to remove Briggs n Stratton in tank carb systems and clean the parts and passages.
