My garage door opens about
check the track system to make sure all the wheels are in track and/or there are no obstructions preventing it from opening, it may be equipped with an emergency shut off if there are any obstructions, also, make sure track is well greased, too dry of a track causes alot of friction.
check with your model number on chaimberlain's manual download page here:

If the door can be pulled up and down manually, and seems smooth and free of restrictions, and doesn't close jerkily.... then there is a fair chance it is the plastic drive gear assembly inside the motor unit has shredded. They only last so long. (Dont know how old your unit is.)
This is what happened on mine. Got a replacement gear assembly for $40 at a garage door installers shop and replaced it. Problem solved. You can actually see a plastic "snow" inside the unit with the cover off where the plastic has shaved over the years. Takes awhile, but not that hard if you're mechanically inclined.
First though, I'd just check to make sure nothing is hanging it up when trying to close. I assume it goes UP just fine, and only gives you this hassle WHEN CLOSING. If all moves smoothly, take the cover off and look for the worn plastic gear and the infamous plastic "snow".
How do I remove the sprocket from the vertical
the sprocket at the top is pressed on. if you are talking about this or if you are taking it out , that is , the shaft, at the bottom is a small gear. It has a clip, that is plastic, that goes into the shaft and around the gear. Remove that clip and slide the gear off, remove the screws on the plate that hold the assembly, remove the shaft through the top.
Door comes down and goes
It sounds like you need to adjust your down limit switch and/or perhaps your motor force settings. If the limit switch is not in the sweet spot along the rail it can be triggering too soon or not in time. In your case it could be too far down the rail and thus not stopping/slowing the motor in time. Your door is then being pushed against the floor too hard. Your safety/return force is goes way over limit and tells the opener to go back. While closing your door look at your rail and if its bending when the door hits the ground, this is definitely happening. After finding the sweet spot for your down limit switch, you can readjust your return/safety force per your opener manual.
Hi. My garage door opener
Hi swilson.... on the motor you will find adjustment screws. One to adjust the up setting and one the down. Also one for the pressure setting. Usually when the door is behaving as yours is the pressure setting needs to be tightened a bit so that it does not reverse direction with the tiniest bit of resistence. Make small adjustments so that you do not end up with a door that is a safety hazard in that it will not reverse when it hits an obstacle. Joe
Thanks for choosing Fixya!
I have an Electro Lift-model
I found some parts harnesses from Chamberlain themselves. There are high voltage and low voltage.I think the most expensive was about $6.Probably costs more than that just to ship. Here is a link.I could not find the G5446 so I don't know if it's the wrong number or what.It starts on page 3 because everything before that had no chain drives. There is also a # for their support if you can't determine which harness. If you need more help, just comment here and I will get an autolink to your post.Good luck,Greg
Lights for door opener do not come on when door is
I have an Electro Lift model #G5446. The light switch in the opener has a break in the hair-like wire wrapping the activator arm. Thus my light doesn't work. I crazy glued the wire and it worked about 10 times, but quit again. I'm afraid that heat affected it. It only takes loosening 3 screws to remove it, and it seems to be an easy replacement---why can't I find the part???
Installed a new gargae door Now i cannot get the
The laser eyes have to go on in a certain way. One of the eyes can not be where it will get direct sunlight. I had one that would not work in the summer about 1:00 pm when the sun was shining in it just right. I would not have any problems in the winter. If you can try to switch sides with the eyes.
