The tv keeps turning off after smelling smoke, the color went bad just before the first time

If you smell smoke from the TV turn it OFF and UNPLUG it before you have a real fire. Something is drawing too much current, or it has a short. It is doubtful that someone with out knowledge of electronics could or even should try to diagnose and repair an electronic item that smokes.

I have the vs 60719

This set was made around 2001 and should have the self check feature. Unplug set and then plug back in and try to turn set on----if green power light comes on for a few seconds and goes off--ON the front of the set press and hold menu and input buttons together for several seconds and then release--------------power light should blink a two digit error code and repeat it several times.1 blinks, 2 blinks a pause and then repeats(1,2 is no error found.)Let me know what you find and comment here.

How do I replace the stk 393 110 chip

If the model here is correct it is either on one side of chassis or on middle board---I can tell you what is involved but need to know if on left as seen from rear or in the middle board the set has.You might also tell me what is wrong--just blue skewed? In either case chip has to be got at--side mounted and not in middle is harder.let me know where its at (this is a old set and only a few of the chips in those ever fail. 6_15_2012_6_00_24_pm.jpg

WE HAVE A MITSUBISHI VS-60719,

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some images of convergence problems.

Picture is warped and colors dont line up

Sounds like you have a convergence IC issue. The convergence ICs allow the red, green, blue beams to line up across the entire screen. Loss of them makes the beams diverge and you see the colors separately. This is a fairly complicated repair but should not cost more than $130 from a reputable shop. If you think you can handle it, know how to solder/desolder proficiently and understand how to apply heat sink compound let me know and I will try to walk you through it.

Attention SD TECH.\r\n

Yes, this is a earlier model---that uses the STK-393-110 chip---if I remember it correctly the chip will be on the far left side of the set on a huge metal heat sink---if you smelled something and now convergence will not move----look at all the resistors in front of that chip---most of the later sets use 3.9 ohm but that one may be different--look for any where the resistors are burnt or discolored (white in the middle)--if it is the set with the huge heatsink on the left side--it is a difficult one---confirm general location of chip--see attached photo of it.

Mitsubishi medallion VS-60719 with convergence

Yes, this model uses a single STK-393-110---IT IS A 2001 MODEL.

If I remember it correctly the IC will be on a huge metal heat sink on the far left side of the set (as you look from the back) there is also a small IC on the same heat sink.

Not the most easy set to do this repair on and if you have a problem with the blue--it may not be the chip.

I have seen 3 or 4 of these where the problem was broken connections on a 10 or 12 pin plug at the left front of the board----

The way someone would pursue this is get the entire chassis up so the bottom of all the boards faces the back of the set--The plug goes to the convergence yokes this set uses---I have seen several where several of the pins had broken loose from the circuit board--normal with expansion etc.

If I was repairing it I would look at the plugs in that front left area FIRST! The last one I fixed had bad connections on TWO plugs---with the board up they will be clearly cracked or ringed--broken loose--if the set for some time would be good and then go bad it is most likely a solder problem.

Resoldering is much easier than replacing that chip!
if it is not resoldering the Chip can be purchased on Ebay for about 14 dollars plus shipping.

If you have someone come out tell them what you know---The plugs (as you look from the back) are up front and towards the left side

If this information has helped you rate this solution as I do this here for FREE.

Medallion VS-60719 with convergence problems, blue

If you mean smearing when you say shadow then your problem may not be the convergence. The blue tube may be faulty(weak), try to play with the contrast and brightness levels and if that smear varies with the adjustment then your problem is most likely the tube, in some case there might be a problem with the screen supply(voltage) or the drive circuit. good luck
