Mitsubishi WS-55511 55" Rear Projection Television - Page 7 Questions & Answers
I have a convergence problem
Your model is the V21 chassis it requires the single IC STK393-110 you will also need 2 5 amp pico fuses. The convergence repair kit is available for your model at
www.tvrepairworld.com which contains the IC, heat sink paste, the pico fuses and the CD with repair instructions and other service info for that model.
Colors are not alignned
You need to set the convergence. Its should be under the menu/settings. Some TVs require that you use the remote for it. If you find the convergence settings it'll let you line up all 3 colors one at a time.
I plugged in the tv
Hi
Thanks for using FixYa. Continuous blinking green LED on Mitsubishi's
Projection which normally blinks after a power surge means that the
microprocessors inside the unit are unable to communicate with each other.
Usually Mitsubishi's Projection TV use 1000uF/16 in the DM MODULE (which is one
of the two microprocessors), as these capacitors are too small for the load
they get they usually fail usually after about 3-5 years. They might also
fail due to voltage fluctuations. To resolve this issue these capacitors should
be replaced with 1000uF/25 volt or 1000uF/35 volt capacitors, so that they can
handle any voltage spikes that will occur. To do the repair you'll need to take
the back off the TV apart in order to remove the faulty DM module and need to
desolder the old capacitors on DM board and install new ones. All this is only
recommended to be done by someone who has electrical expertise. Please
rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further
assistance.
Thanks

The tv dosent turn on it just show a green
Blinking light ofdeath
ONLY 1 of 2 things can cause this problem----
First thing to do is remove front speaker grill--it should pull out and issecured with plastic pegs--behind it you will find an inspection plate---
Notice the one or two pairs of wires coming from the front keyboard of theset---remove the inspection plate and follow the wires to the right--you canunplug both plugs(most have two and they are marked with letters and differents so you cannot get them wrong)
The idea here is to remove the front keyboard with its reset button etc fromthe circuit---You will still be able to try to turn the set on with theremote---
These sets have a Receiver that is called a DM board--(large metal box to theleft as you look from the back) and if the power goes out the green light willblink for about 70 seconds and then go out---it is the Receiver booting up. Itis called the DM board.
If disconnecting the keyboard allows the set to turn on--you have a bad resetswitch and two choices---either operate the set only with the remote or toremove the front screen and get at the reset switch (it is tiny) and removeand/or replace it.
If disconnecting the keyboard does not restore the set to operation---thereceiver is bad---there are 4 or more caps and some pico fuses that can fail inthat unit---Mitsubishi no longer sells or repairs these--if it is bad and notthe caps there is a company you can send the unit to and have it repaired--ifyou need to know their name let me know---
You can call them and get a quote for repairing the receiver.
Let me know what more information you need--I am here to help.
If this told you something you did not know rate this solution as very helpfulas I do this here for free.

Where do i connect black
Hi:
You can place the neg probe any where there is a ground or metal connection. Try placing it on a metal sheild of one of the boards.
When tv is turned on the green light comes on and
There's a good chance you have failing electrolytic capacitors, probably in the power section.
Any caps in this section (or any other section) that look bulged at the top, or bulged/leaking at the bottom need to be replaced.
If you repeatedly turn it off and on, eventually it'll probably stay on, but every time you turn it off, the TV will get harder and harder to start up until one day it just won't.
Sometimes you have to do the opposite to start it up and unplug it for some time and then try again.
If you aren't tech savvy, don't worry, read the rest of this solution and watch the videos.
If you are handy with a soldering iron and can identify the power supply and inverter / FM section for the backlights, an inexpensive handful of capacitors will likely fix you right up.
Match the capacitance on the capacitors. Go over voltage if you can, and still have them fit.
IE - it's not a bad idea to replace a 10V cap with a 16V or 25V or even a 50V, but don't replace a 680uF cap with a 500uF or a 1000uF (unless you are positive it's only doing ripple filtering, and even then, you should go OVER, not under the uF rating).
Most of the caps that go are 10V 1000uF or 3300uF.
I found some great videos of the procedure (for many Samsungs with the same/similar issue) on youtube.

As you can see, this issue spans plasma TVs, as well as large and small LCD TVs and monitors.
The parts are cheap, and skill required is minimal.
My tv shuts off every 30 min after will reseting
when the set shuts off on the front of the set press and hold input and menu buttons at same time for at least five seconds and let both go.
Power light will blink an error code like two blinks, two blinks, a pause and repeat it several times; error code will give some idea where problem is, 1,2 blinks is no error found.

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com
Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out
Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.
Common Symptoms include....
- Screen looks 3D
- Colors don't line up
- One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
- Screen is bowed or warped.
- TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.
SOLUTION #1

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy
Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

You have several bad grounds on the convergence board. Boy! I mean several and to numerous to mention. If you know which is the convergence board, pull this out of the TV. This will be difficult and requires your best patience. The convergence IC is located on a large heat sink. The IC will be an STK 393-110. Start by re soldering the pins on this IC. Check all resistors that are 3.9 ohms at 2 watts for values with a DMM. I do not believe these will be need replacing, check to be sure any way. You may have to re solder these as well. You will note you will need to re solder the jumper jacks (these connect to boards on either side of the one you are working on. Locations of these jumper jacks are PM, VU, and PF. Now if you can, inspect the rest of the board, and look very close for solder breaks on diodes, transistors, capacitors, resistors and transformers. You must really look close to find these. Don't expect to do this in one day. Spend about thirty minutes a day for week, for inspection and corrections. Thanks for (yawning!) asking me and show all hands of support! G'dnite.
I have a mitsubishi model
TWO possible reasons for the blinking light:
1. The DM unit (caps and or fuses) are bad---no longer made and only (to my knowledge) PTS electronics repairs/rebuilds them.
2.
Less likely but Possible: remove front speaker grill and inspection
plate behind it----locate the two bundles of wires from front keyboard
on set and follow them down and to the right---unplug both plugs and
plug set in and wait 70 plus seconds and try to turn set on with
Mitsubishi remote.
The blinking light is the DM trying to boot up--if set works with front keyboard unplugged---the tiny reset switch on it is bad.
If set does NOT work that way DM UNIT IS BAD.

Just what kind of component is PC9A21. In other cases, check all grounds on the under neath of both the power supply and the convergence board. You must really inspect for these, grounds in this case are far to common on this TV. The next board to inspect will be the convergence board. I was surprised at how many bad grounds this board will have. The pins connecting the convergence IC to the board are also in need of resoldering! And, most certainly, really eveball the connections that have jumper cables connecting these two boards. This area is terrible for grounds. If one side is bad, you know the connection on the other, is also bad! Before you reinstall these boards, please check you capacitors ESR. You will need to have an ESR meter for this. One bad capacitor can cause a dead TV symptom. This meter may be purchased for about $50.00. This will be a very good investment. You will be able to repair many, many electronic gadgets with one!
