That is unfortunate, you can try removing the board, washing it down with electro wash ($33.00 a can, so go light!) let it dry and reinstall it. I usually will put a plastic barriar under the tubes to prevent any more damage if I get it working, A piece of an old tv screen works well. Good luck.

It may be fluid from the picture tubes. They have a silicon based fluid inside the lens housing that helps keep them cool, unfortunantly the fluid in this model leaks. The fluid is corrosive but not conductive, meaning that it can sit on the board long enough to eat through the board but not short it out. There is a 1" square ic on the main board (large green board on the left) usually if there is fluid damage it will be there and you will know it by:
1. green residue all over or around chip
2. clear fluid on the board.

This is a very common problem and is almost always catistropic. Meaning that the tv is not repairable. I hope you don't have this problem but chances are that you do or will in the near future with this model. This is just a guide as to where the fluid may be on the board, but it may be anywhere. resolder the vertical output IC. Thats a common problem in that model. causes the video to drop out.

The foil trace may have gotten broken on the printed circuit board behind the tct switch.. Try using the remote to turn on the TV set. If the set tryes to click on but does not, most likly the switch has nothing to do with this problem. If the relay cicks and nothing happens, most likly you have a fault in the main power supply and or the sweep supplys. These sets are very common to have bad capacitors and or the start up circuit to go bad. If your not experienced with electronic repairs, play it safe and call in a pro to assist you in this repair. I have seen this before, and I can only describe it as a flaking of the phosphorus coating in one of the picture tubes. If you can, remove the back such that you can take a flashlight and look down into the 3 picture tubes. If you see any flaking or dark spots in the phosphor, there will be a spot on the screen missing that color. Unfortunately, this is not repairable, as all 3 tubes would need to be replaced (like replacing all 4 car tires when one is completely bald) and that would cost more than a new TV.

Recommend against soldering the damaged ends together - it's ugly, will never be especially safe, and risks being unreliable too. Have a look at the TV end of the cable. Does it go straight into the TV, or is there a plug that goes into the TV. If there's a plug, just pull it out, take it along to shop that sells TVs and they'll sell you a new one off the shelf. If the cable goes straight into the TV, the solution is just a tiny bit more involved. First, look at the mains plug to check whether it is moulded on, or rewirable. If moulded on, you will need both a new plug, and some flex. If rewireable, you'll only need the flex. Either way, take the cut-off end to Home Depot or somewhere similar and buy something the same shape and size (thickness of the wires is the important thing here). To fit, carefully take the back off the TV and look at how the existing cord was connected and secured before removing it and putting the new one on in exactly the same way. Don't forget to push the wire through the hole in the case (if there is one) before connecting it up. Once the flex is fitted to the TV, fit the plug to the other end. Safety/reliability tip 1 - while the back is off, try not to touch any electrical or electronic components inside the TV other than the power terminals you're supposed to be working on. If you can get the red to come up by turning up the red screen control, then your problem is in the red crt drive circuit. It could be a bad connection on the red crt board or CRT socket. A defective video drive transistor or associated componets on the CRT drive board processor/video jungle IC. A schematic and a multimeter should point you in the right direction. if you have no TV repair experience, I would advise for you to call in a pro to assist you in this repair, as there are no user serviceable parts inside this set. Hoping you did not have electric overload that damaged the power supply, try unplugging the set and push the button On until no lights indicate anything.
