Well I see this frequently, lightning causes so many problems and does weird thing to electronics. What has most likely happened is that the Spike/Surge/Dropout, received, when the unit went Off & On again. has most likely destroyed the Input Buffer and Amplifier, in the front end.
Below is your service and repair manual, should you wish to DIY, below that is your User manual, both are invaluable when attempting any repairs.
http://www.download-service-manuals.com/manual.php?file=Mitsubishi-1333.pdf

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Mitsubishi-WS-55819-TVs-manual/id/276bh851/t/2/
This most likely, a simpler repair, I think, that if it is just what I have suggested, and it hasn't caused any "Other" damage, then I expect, it would cost around $175 - $250.00 parts & labor. BUT as usual please ask for a "Quote" BEFORE allowing any repair work to commence.

It has no lamp, just the three picture tubes and they are not your problem.

I would suggest you do an inspection looking for any signs of Glycol leaks.

Each of the three tubes has a sealed area with this liquid in it, clear and very toxic.

Pull the front speaker grill off and remove the inspection plate behind it. There are three large circuit boards. Right to left as seen from the front---signal/control board green in color, Middle board tan colored----deflection/power and far left board main power and HV supply.

Leaks may be hard to see, it will not be a lot of liquid and or may appear as discoloration of parts. Leaks if there will be in first 3 inches or so of front of boards.

The green board is the most likely in your case---I will attach a photo of what it looks like and you will see the liquid on the square part on that board. The board has parts soldered to the TOP! and slight amounts may appear as discoloration of solder seen there.

As I said, you must look closely as even a tiny amount can cause real odd problems.

Let me know what you find and I will assist you.

If this helped, rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

nick402,

If your green crt is leaking you will need to replace it. This is fairly expensive and if the unit is older you should really replace all the crts or you may have a problem trying to balance the color.

CRT projection units are run very hard and need a coolant in front of the phosphors to keep the tube from overheating and imploding. There is about 1 inch of a special optical coolant sandwiched between the phosphor panel and the outer panel. It is sealed at the factory and never needs changed or added to unless, as you have, experience a leak. I doubt that the leak can be fixed successfully. That means replacement is your only option.

If you want to proceed I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4573850-change_crt_in_projection_tv which will walk you through it and also give you the best place to get the part at the best price.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

Between the fuses, resistors, and the IC packs I think you've done well. Your going to have to recheck your soldering on those lands at the IC's pins, or replace the defective (new) packs.

MY MEDALLION WILL NOT TURN ON THE GREEN LITE IS GOING ON AND OFF THAT SAYS TIMER ON CAN U TELL ME THE PROBLEM.

Mitsubishi... | Answered on Aug 05, 2010

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described error code 1 – 2 means no error detected however, error 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current). If it is flashing 1-2 then leave the unit unplugged for 10-30 minutes and see if that makes any difference. If it is flashing 2-1 then the issue is with the high voltage section of the unit and it is always recommended that these kinds of repairs should be done by someone with knowledge of internal circuitry of the unit. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

SOUNDS like you have bad filtor capacitors in 9v and 5v circuits. J.D.W.

Mitsubishi... | Answered on Jun 25, 2010

Yes you can provided you can handle electronic devices(safely) and can solder. Let me tell you all that you have to do so that you can decide for yourself. First up you should get 2 convergence ICs(STK392-570),
test the resistors in the circuit with a multimeter set in ohmmeter mode. If they are blown replace them with ones of same values. Once thats done apply thermal grease on the ICs remove the old ones(un-solder and de-attach them from the heatsink) and solder the new ones in. You may also have to perform a convergence mode adjustment. Let me know once you have replaced them and I will tell you how to do this.

Hi,
After tv shuts down, its green light would start flashing, let it flashing for couple of minutes until it stop flashing.
Flashing green light is sign of problem in tv, this tv can also show what section got problem, you need to do error code operational check.
Turn on tv, let green light flashing for few minutes until it get stop flashing then follow below procedure to activate error code check:

Pressing the front panel “DEVICE” and “MENU” buttons at the same time, and holding for 5 seconds, activates the Error Code Mode. The LED flashes denoting a two digit Error Code, or indicating no problem
has occured since the last Initialization.
Note: The front panel buttons Must used, NOT those on the Remote Control.
• The number of flashes indicates the value of the MSD (tens digit) of the Error Code.
• The flashing then pauses for approximately 1/2 second.
• The LED then flashes indicating the value of the LSD (ones digit) of the Error Code.
• The Error Code is repeated a total of 5 times.
Example: If the Error Code is “24”, the LED will flash two times, pause, and then flash four times.

Let me know error code to provide you helpful info to solve the issue.
Thanks.

I think I already tried to help you.

2,2 is short protection--98% chance one of the two pico fuses that protect the convergence circuit are bad.

This means the fuses and both STK-392-570 chips need to be replaced.

If you reply to this post I can post step by step instructions and photos of the fuses and the chips.

ALL PARTS NEEDED ARE ON THE MIDDLE CIRCUIT BOARD AND TOTAL PARTS COST SHOULD BE UNDER 30 DOLLARS--I can tell you a seller on EBAY WHERE I BUY MY PARTS.

Hi,
Question post shows its Mitsubishi WS-55819 rear projection tv, timer light blinking is common problem in this unit, actually its protection that gets activate for some reason.
Please check all connectors are tight and press mounted boards that can be slightly unplugged in transportation.
This model has another known problem of leaky capacitors in DM module that also put tv in blinking light status, replacement of these leaky capacitors in DM module by qualified person will fix the issue.
Let me know if you have additional question.
Thanks.

convergence repair kit needed. convergence chips and/or fuses bad

Mitsubishi... | Answered on Jun 03, 2010

I assume that you have tried to start it using the buttons on the tv also, not just the remote.
There can be a lot of problems that would cause that - to test which is the one you will have to open the rear panel and test some components using a multimeter.
Start by checking that the power cord is intact and the fuse isn't burned - use an ohmmeter. Then check that the power source's capacitors are in working order - no bulging or leaking. Finally test the voltages in and out of the power source.
Beware, there are lethally high tensions in there, if you don't have even the smallest experience in electronics you should leave that to a professional, you can do a lot of damage and hurt yourself by touching something you shouldn't.
