What would be better, lightning arrestors or surge
Hello
The lightning arreseters and surge protectors are of different use. Lightning arrestors are of course high voltage dischargers, where surge protectors are use in connection with the supply voltage of the device to be protected. A lightning arrester cannot give protection against line surge voltages. Line surge voltages are the result of various other electrical equipments, connected to the specific line, susch as high capacity motors, or so. When a motor is switched on to a line, its winding will take a tremendous amount of current during startup, and due to this a spike will be induced on the line, which may cause damage to delciate electronic equipents. Therefore, to protect and electronic equipment from line surge, surge protector is better. A lightning arrester also can be installed. As we know, there will be trillions of volts during a lightning discharge. Lightning arresters are not discharging this at one time, but discharges it slowly to ground, and thus avoiding the chance of a sudden discharge. Nothing of the above can prevent a sudden lightning discharge at all. OK.
