Hello,
I have this unit as well and the disc MUST say CDR Music on them.
Normal CDrs will play,but not record.

you probably have regular cd-r disks that cannot be recorded on in this unit. You can only use disks marked "DIGITAL AUDIO" for recording

A simple web search for "Yamaha CDR-D651 manual" finds it.

Be sure to "finalize" the recorded cd before use in another cd player. Another thing is there are always a few bad discs in a spindle of blank discs... And sometimes you will get "check disc" or "bad disc" when a blank disc is inserted. I would be sure to use blank discs for audio use, not computer use, with your Yamaha.

Your assessment that it duplicates CD's internally fits with an analog-only failure mode. Let's make sure the signal is getting past your RCA jacks on the deck...

Put the deck in a Rec/Standby mode and make sure an analog source registers adequate volume on the meters. If it's good there and doesn't change with cable swapping between the input channels, you're right, the problem is internal. Maybe the volume potentiometer itself has developed a dead spot. Manually rotate it throughout its range many times to wipe it clean.

If you have an external optical digital source use it to check the meters in digital recording mode to be sure they're about even. The same knob affects analog and digital levels.

If you have the deck connected via the traditional Tape Monitor circuit in a receiver you should be able to tell by ear if the one channel is dead or too low. This puts all of the recording circuitry including the volume knob in line with your receiver.

I expect there is either a power supply issue or one of the amplifiers has failed causing over current to turn it off as a protection to the power supply.

Yes if it has a suitable speaker connection available and is nominally 8 ohms impedance Speaker and AV.

Being from 1985 or there abouts, it probably needs some TLC at a Yamaha service centre. May need new capacitors and resolder dry joints for age related issues.

WD-40 ... Very dangerous as it not only flammable when wet but is bad for electrical contacts as it leaves a residue behind that does not conduct electricity very well. Check speaker connections first.

(francais) hello in my issue the probleme was a little resistor r027 it's in this red zone and very ugly. easy to find. a friend was unsolded the resistor and weld a little wire after wash with isopropanole alcool. the resistor test the tension when we plug usb thing. less the resistor the usb ports don't work. you can buy r027 for 2 euros for 100 pieces.... or 2 euros for 5 10 pieces (funny).

You must repair the amplifier first. Take it to an authorised Yamaha service centre.

You can't do this. The SpeakerCraft is a standalone amplifier. The Yamaha is a Receiver and has its own amplifier. Thanks for the compliments Gilbert. You have tried the reset so a Yamaha audio tech is the answer. This link will find you one close to where you live. There is probably a glass fuse on the power board, but you have to find out WHY the fuse blew? Question edited for clarity and all the typos. The Yamaha receiver has to have a sound source and the speaker wires connect the two together. Receivers often have a a switch for Speaker set 1 and Speaker set 2, so you can send the music to two different rooms. Make sure you are on the correct set. These are supposed to be standalone television speakers by the looks of it connected to what they call an 'AV Processing Unit', I would guess more commonly called a Surround Sound Theatre System.
