This is directly from the service manual for the R-N402: Hold the left preset button (<) and the bass (+) button and press the power button and then release. The receiver will disable the power protection and turn on in self-diagnostic mode. My device is working correctly now. :)

The laser that reads the disc's and the lens need to be replaced for your CD player.It cold be that the volume control has worn out and needs to be replaced.

Not all receivers will support an equalizer. If the receiver has a built in equalizer, another equalizer will not be supported.

You will find it has a power amplifier issue. Take it to an authorised Yamaha repair centre.

Follow the instructions that comes with the remote controller.

Sounds like an overheating issue. Check the heatsinks are fixed properly.

Check the power output boards for short circuit transistors and failed ICs.

You need to connect the subwoofer to your receiver using the speaker wire connections on the rear of the receiver. Take the speaker input from the subwoofer to the A or B speaker terminals on the rear of the AV receiver. Then take the speaker outputs from the sub and connect to the main speaker terminals. Really you need to buy a receiver with a sub out to do it properly. Sell this one and buy another.

You need to check your specs on the amp and preamp. There is a mismatch with impedance or you are overdriving the amp input and internal feedback circuit is trying to clamp it and causes that sound. It is known as motorboating.

remote button has failed
