My porter cable air compressor

The airr pressure cut off switch is not working or out of alignment. What you can do is to adjust the spring with the air pressure reading at your required pressure. Once this is done allow the air to flow so that the compressor will work again to cur off, you will have to trim once again to set it to the correct condition. If the spring assembly is not working well on pressure you can remove and reset. If the contact are dirty , the switch on may not start the compressor, in such case clean the contacts. But if you think that it is not acting responsive, the please replace the unit and do the settting as explained above.
I hope you try this out. Good day

The drain plug on my Porter Cable pancake

Yes...the drain valve on the bottom of the tank is just a standard 1/4 Drain Pedcock that you can purchase at most hardware store.
You can also find these in the hardware section of Lowes or Home Depot where they sell the Air Compressors.

Porter cable 6 gal pressure switch. safety valve blows when tank filling

Depending on the pressure in the tank when the safety valve releases, the problem is likely your pressure switch. If the pressure is at or above 160 psi when it blows, then the problem is the switch. If the pressure is lower, then it is likely a faulty safety valve. There are about 8 versions of this machine. check on dewalt service net for the correct part. you may need to check ebay if the part is nla thru dewalt.

What would cause hose from pump to tank on a porter cable pancake comressor get extremely hot when running

It is normal for the line going from the compressor to the tank to get very hot in all air compressors. Compressing air creates allot of heat. It will get hot enough to cause burns if touched.

My check valve hose gets very hot, I saw a question, what is meant by regulated pressure?

  1. The regulated pressure is at the output of the pressure regulator i/e the air pressure being delivered to the air tool or spray gun.
  2. This can be set from just a few PSI up to about 180 PSI (on my Porter Cable unit).

No regulated pressure

Pressure regulator can fail giving little or no pressure at quick connect. There is a plunger inside of reg that can get stuck due to moisture/rust and /or threads of adjustment knob could strip. Back side of regulator (opposite the knob) find a hex nut. Remove nut (let out all the air from tank before removing nut) and pull plunger/spring away, clean , lube and reinstall for test. If still no joy, remove knob by moving stop pin up (tiny pin close to lip of knob and or spring clip) and turning counter clock wise. Remove the piston from cylinder of reg making note of how it was installed, lube and reinstall, make sure that the threads inside the knob are good. Replace knob and turn in to max pressure. If still no joy, replace reg or install temp air outlet. To install temp outlet, remove safety pop valve (remove all air from tank) and install tee fitting. Reinstall pop valve to one port of the tee fitting and quick connect to the other (or generic regulator ((sold at Lowes)) between quick connect). Good luck
