Culligan 34" Whole House Water Filter Housing Wrench Use - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
What is a control head
It is the control valve on top of your water treatment system that controls its regeneration functions. Such as the "Control Head" on top of this water softener on left in picture.

Culligan Super S Water Conditioner - Recurring Constant Water Running Issue
That is way too frequently! It is true that these tend to have sealpack problems, but usually every 3-5 years would be normal replacement for sealpack on this system. I suspect you are getting sediment or sand from the well and this is causing the sealpack damage. A pre-filter housing with 20-30 micron filter may improve this problem. Run your outside hose into a white bucket and pay attention to any sand, sediment or debris that may settle out of the water after letting the water sit. Suggest letting the pump cycle several times while observing for sediment. If substantial sediment is seen,I would suggest flushing the well for several hours (just let the hose run, for several hours).RJH2O

Does not remove smell from water
An in line filter will only remove hydrogen sulfide if you use a carbon filter. H2S will vary a great deal during the course of a year. If the carbon filter loads quickly (1 month or less) you may want to consider an iron / hydrogen sulfide filtration system before the water softener. Those that work with air work very well.RJH2O

Leaking Culligan Water Softener at neck of tank,
I would suggest by-passing the system if the leak is substantial. Also make sure the leak is not coming from the main piston. Frequently leaks occur here, water runs down and collects around the top of tank before running down the side. Take the cover off, run the system through a manual regeneration and observe for any leaks. If the tank was hit it is most likely the leak is coming from connections between control and softener by-pass valve. If leak is coming from the tank and valve connection you will need to take the valve off to see if there is a crack at the tank threads. If so tank needs to be replaced. Here is a link for Culligan site that will have the manual for your machine.

First make sure all the filters on all faucets (kitchen, bathrooms and even the dish washer and washer) are clean and not clogged, sometimes on areas with hard water you will experience sand and minerals to accumulate and clogged all filters. If all filter are clean with no minerals, then your problem could be the culligan filter, ask your sales rep to perform an inspection for minerals on all ending lines.
Hope this clear up your water lines. It happened to me.

That model # does not work. 10x54 denotes the size of the tank. Is this a Gold Series, Medallist?

Silver water softner sounds like water running all the time
It is running to drain. The sealpack (main piston & sealpack are one unit) is bad and needs to be replaced. If you are handy you can do this yourself. There is a retrofit kit to help repair these issues. It is only available at Culligan. It is about $10.

My whole house filter drain
It probably has a frozen piston. This will cause it to run to drain constantly. Bypass the unit and call your water treatment dealer.

How to open the housing on big blue 20 to change
The best way to do this is to shut the incoming water supply off. Open the closest cold water faucet to relieve the water pressure. Shut off the outlet valve. You will need a BB wrench. Push the RED pressure relief button on top of filter as you turn clockwise on the wrench. Lubricate the o-ring with silicone lube, clean filter housing and re-install filter. Only tighten housing hand tight.

My Culligan water softner is leaking from the
It depends on how old it is. Older Culligan systems(pre 1999) have separate inlet and outlet on tank and have washers that fit inside the "FEET" that slide onto tank. Newer style systems have center opening tanks with o-rings that seat on tank. You need to see what model it is. Bypass the system, run through a manual regeneration to relieve pressure, then you can change the washer or o-ring. They are only available at Culligan.
