Yamaha RX-Z9 Receiver Questions & Answers
My yamaha rx-z9 receiver keeps turning off by
I also have a RX-Z9 and it was shutting off for no reason. It was driving me crazy because no one would want to fix such a complex beast. I found the solution and it works perfectly. The rear panel of the amp must have some grounding or connection to the internal boards and if you take a screwdriver and slightly loosen and then firmly re tighten all of the screws on the back panel ( turn power off of course) then this problem will be solved.
Activate surroundsound speakers
Go to Manual Configuration select Audio Basic, Surround, then Yes, Size (small or big), now end. Assuming You have GUI control (the small one) if not, You can do the same by Front Panel. Read Owners Manual It's quite easy.
Yamaha rx-z9 can not get digital audio
If your receiver is saying you only have analog, it must not be able to see the optical input. Check your optical cable, maybe it is damaged or not tight.

For this kind of issue, try checking if the RCA cables that was used is still working or not loose. If this amp was not used for a long time, try cleaning the RCA jack connectors on your amplifier, there is a possibility that if the cables were fine, it might be the RCA jack connectors have rust or corroded. Hope this helps.

This is a seven year-old receiver with 7 year-old technology. It will be far more cost-effective to upgrade to a contemporary unit. Also, if you are insistent on having this unit, you can buy a replacement one for $1100 on Amazon.

As far as the mobo is concerned, you'll need the part and I was unable to find it online but you can order it through Yamaha's website if you know the part number. If you don't know the part number you can call Yamaha at 888-892-6242 for it. Before you consider doing that, though you should get the service manual to see how much of a project it entails. It's available all over the Internet as a PDF download, a seller on eBay has it for $7.50.
Zone 2 problem
Your unit's internal breaker is tripping out. Hmmm...I think all of these high end Yamaha AVRs have a self diagnostic program. I have an earlier Yamaha model (1998) DSP-A1 and it does. You should be able to access the diagnostic readout by pushing the right buttons on the front panel. I have a service manual for my DSP-A1 and it shows how to do it for my unit. The diagnostic program stores in memory what fault caused the internal breaker to trip. I would suggest you get a copy of the service manual for the Z9. You can readily get one on the web from various suppliers for a small fee. My guess would be a high temperature trip as I have heard the z9s run very hot.

Is the hum in the receiver-attached speakers or the sub?
Self-powered sub?
How is the sub attached - RCA or speaker-level?
Disconnect the input(s) and see if it hums in the absence of an audio source. A bad audio cable shield or unwisely-routed audio cables will allow entrance of unwanted signals from external power sources, magnetic fields, even dimmer-controlled track lights. Sometimes, simply reversing the orientation of the ac power plug can eliminate humming.
If it hums with the sub attached, unplug the sub's power cord. Differences in AC ground potentials will generate hum across linked devices.

the unit requires original remote for all its functions to work properly.as with other same type of remote the unit is detecting the remote but that remote is not completely supportive to your remote.each remote has its IR code.that IR code supports that particular brand model of unit.the remote which you are using is having bit different IR code from the original remote.so the unit is not detecting all the command from that remote.
try getting the original required remote made for this unit.
you can also check out getting remote from on-line sites like
