Yamaha HTR-5730. I lost the remote, how do I set up the amplifier with only the buttons on the face of the amplifier? I couldn't get both speakers to work so i reset the unit and now I can't figure it

sounds like your player not the receiver. if the test tone you get sound both left and right it's your player

How do I turn the subtitles off for the yamaha HTR-5730 AV receiver? When I hook the cable up directly to the TV, there are no subtitles, but when the video output goes through the receiver, subtitles

The receiver manual may list it under "CC" (closed captions) instead of subtitles. Also, don't just check your AV receiver; try checking the setup menu on your TV, and look at the TV remote. See if there's a CC setting that may be turned on, either through the TV setup (probably under the "Display" or "Video" tab) or because you've accidentally pushed the CC (or Subtitles) button on the TV remote.

When using tuner both speakers

ONLY one channel low with a turntable?

Are you using a self-preamlified TT or an outboard phono preamp, because the HTR has no facility for direct attachment of an old-school TT.

It could be a turntable problem if you have phono preamplification most likely. Swap the two channels to prove it or not.

Try another input.

Humming coming from the speakers

From all speakers?

How is the audio connected to the TV (be specific)?

Keep in mind that a TV is not generally an audio source as its programming always comes from something higher up the audio food chain than itself. Get the audio to your receiver from whatever THAT is, not the TV.

I'm only getting analog sound when tv is on,

Name the TV model and define the routing of said optical audio cable.

Digital audio is rarely originated at the TV but it usually comes conveniently from the source you're watching on it. Try routing the digital audio directly from the source to the Yamaha and bypass any limitations imposed by marginal TV electronics.

You need to try other codes for Yamaha, as clearly the one you have put in the remote is incorrect, perhaps it was for an earlier model.

Yamaha HTR-5750 no sound when I turn to the DTV/Cable setting

If you are not getting sound on "Any" input except "multi channel" you have a bad DSP chip in the receiver. In short, you need a new receiver, it's a 500.00 repair. If you get sound on "All" inputs except "DTV/CBL" You need to get into the main menu of the Yamaha and select audio, toggle to input, then DTV/CBL and select "Auto". If you still do not get audio, it would be due to the version of HDMI software in your receiver. If it's under warranty, Yamaha will update hardware and software for you at N/C. If it's out of warranty, use digital coaxial or optical as your audio input for TV and run your HDMI directly to the TV. (The repair for this too would run 250-350) I hope I've covered all the possibilities. If you need further help, post a comment and I can help you more.
