The generator doesn't turn off after

The transfer switch is responsible for starting / stopping the generator. Check your auto - start circuit. It is 2 wires that go between the genset and ATS. They are generally normally open. When the genset is to shut down this circuit needs to change state.

My generator is a briggs and stratton 7kw

You have a fuel delivery issue that can be dealt with by cleaning carb or replacing it. If you do replace carb has to be adjusted to the motor.(idle, mixture)

Bought new. No problems until two weeks ago. Now has 252 HRS. Starts all the time, runs 10 seconds then shuts down. I have removed wire an oil pressure switch. no help. Found connector off on switch p

It shuts down because it's not making power. You are probably getting a failure to start error code. If it doesn't make power it doesn t know its running. Rotor has lost residual magnetism to start the voltage regulator. Replace the voltage regulator. The new one is designed to overcome this.

Generator will start in Manual

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

Spend some time reading this manual after you download it:
http://www.guardiangenerators.com/PublicPDFs/0F7698.pdf

This is how the manual page 99 says you should set the weekly exersise cycle:
(this should be the same for your generator)

SETTING WEEKLY EXERCISE CYCLE

The generator will start and exercise once every

seven (7) days, on a day and at a time of day selected

by the installer or operator. The unit will run for

approximately 13-15 minutes during this "exercise"

cycle, and will then shut down. Transfer of electrical

loads to the "standby" power source will not occur

during the exercise.

A switch located on the generator control console permits

the day and time of exercise to be selected. To

select the day and time of day for the system to exercise,

proceed as follows:

• Place the AUTO-OFF-MANUAL switch to its OFF

position.

• Hold the set exercise time switch at its ON position

for about five (5) seconds.

• After five seconds, release the set exercise time

switch to its OFF position. Wait 30 seconds, then

place the AUTO-OFF-MANUAL switch at AUTO.

The generator will exercise every seven (7) days at

the selected time.

NOTE: Failure to wait 30 seconds before placing

the AUTO-OFF-MANUAL switch to AUTO may

result in engine cranking and startup. If the

engine does crank and start, it will shut-down
automatically within about two (2) minutes

If it still does not work... Check the Utility Power line transformer resistances in the transfer switch. Also check the terminal board in the transfer switch for any corrosion or signs of heat.

All Terminals connections N1, N2, T1, T2, E1, & E2 should be tight and clean.

If you need more assistance just respond here and I will help you.

Briggs & Stratton 12KW Model

Can you manually adjust the voltage on the generator without load?? If you have 120/240 60hz output on it and you are not overloading the unit (amperage), then it may be as simple as adjusting whats called your gain setting for your voltage regulator. Obviously you are seeing what happens when it is set too low. Trying raising that setting until it becomes unstable then back it off. Unstable meaning voltage starts jumping all over.

Generator will not start

There are Three things a Motor needs to work, Fuel, Spark, Air. So you simply check each step, If you have Fuel, and you are sure it's getting to carburettor, then, First check, spark plug, (Replace is best), spark plug leads, and Ends. See if there is a "Spark" when the Motor is turned over. IF there is a good spark, OK, if NOT find out why, check, coil, check, points/Electronic ignition. Alternator. IF all good there, then Check, carburettor, Needle valve, Jet, float bowl, float and valve, check mixture. www.repairfaq.org/samnew/lmfaq.htm www.briggsandstratton.com/maint_repair/ www4.briggsandstratton.com/display/router.asp?DocID.

Why do my clocks run

Electric clocks use synchronized motors that run on 60 Hz AC. The power company provides AC power with a precisely regulated frequency of 60 Hz. That means that the voltage jumps back and forth (positive to negative) 60 times per second. Your generator would do the same thing if it could run at precisely 3600 rpm (that's rev's per minute) - but it can't, because the engine is not that precisely controlled. In your case it tends to run (on average) a little fast. I hope you found this helpful. By the way, in Europe 50 Hz is the norm. If you run a clock designed for 50 Hz on 60 Hz power, it will run 20% too fast! Al K
