The real issue here is you have one of two things wrong:

1.) The set has a bad ballast or other problem that destroyed the lamp.

2.) Someone replaced the lamp with a "Generic bulb" which means they used either just a bulb or a cartridge with a bulb in it that was not FROM HITACHI.

If you decide to go on the web and buy another---GET A ORIGINAL FROM HITACHI---LAMP THIS WAY SHOULD COME WITH AT LEAST A 6 MONTH WARRANTY.

LOTS OF PEOPLE RUN into trouble with "generic" parts in sets like this; they just to not perform as well or last as long. If the lamp that was in the set to begin with lasted over 2,000 hours I think a generic or poor replacement was used.

What you describe is a classic symptom of burned out fluorescent tubes in the display. I'm assuming this tv is a LCD model...Unseen by the user, there are long, thin, extremely bright, fluorescent tubes along the edges(usually top and bottom) which light up a backscreen so you have a vivid image to look at. (sort of like how a doctor views xray pictures) As the tubes age, they change color and eventually burn out. An excellent example of the same technology is a laptop display or desktop lcd display--same exact design. Hopefully your unit is under warranty because this is an involved repair *if* it can be done. Most often, the whole lcd display unit must be replaced. Definitely shop around for repair facilities if non-warranty is a factor.

Sounds like the lamp has gone or the filter needs cleaning.

There is a lot of brands and models on the market that use the same lamps.

Fd means Factory Default settings.
