I have a Generac Guardian

The battery could be bad. Try to measure the battery voltage when you try to start. If the battery is bad then the voltage will drop quite low when the battery is loaded with trying to start the set. If you can borrow a similar battery you could just try with it.

What size wire is needed from transfer switch to generator

Most battery chargers are trickle type chargers - that is, they provide a constant low current (under an amp) output at 12 - 15 volts to keep the battery charge up. This small charging current is handled easily by a #14 or #12 wire which will pass up to 2 or 16 amps consistently, respectively (the larger cables off the battery are for the starter motor). If you're having trouble maintaining a charge on the battery, a careful check of the charging circuit is required. Look for loose or corroded connections - at the battery in particular, open or blown fuses on the input (120 volt) side of the charger and the 12 volt output side (if provided). Battery acid is conductive. This means if there is a path of battery acid from one post to the other - no matter how long or short the path - the battery will discharge through this path. Neutralize (with baking soda) and clean any battery acid from the area to be sure the battery isn't discharging faster than the trickle charger can charge it. You can check the output of the charger with a DC voltmeter. Simply press the test leads to the battery posts and some value above 11.5 volts (11 - 12.75 volts may not be uncommon). Look at the chart below to get an idea of the charge of a lead acid battery4_9_2012_7_36_01_pm.pngWith the battery disconnect from the charger (or the charger powered off), the meter should show indicate 12 volts (even if practically dead) without a load. That's why it is important to load the battery when trying to get a voltage reading from it. Many auto parts stores sell and loan battery load / meters expressly for this purpose. They look like this:4_9_2012_7_22_05_pm.jpgIf you have a battery that won't stand up under load, you may have a a problem with acid / distilled water level or even a dead cell. You can not check these variables in a maintenance free battery however. If you have removable caps on the battery, check and top off the level with distilled water only to a "full" or "high" level mark. A hydrometer can be used to determine the charge of each cell in the battery. These can be had for under $10 in most auto parts stores, too. They look like this:4_9_2012_7_27_43_pm.jpgMake sure you get one to check the specific gravity of battery acid - NOT to check anti-freeze level protection - they look similar.Good luck!

Battery does not stay charged on my 20kw generac

WAS A 110 VOLT CIRCUIT RAN TO IT FROM THE NORMAL UTILITY POWER OF HOME OR BUILDING IT FEEDS?
NORMALLY THIS IS DONE IN A SEPERATE CONDUIT FOR CONTROL WIRES.AND THE FEEDERS ARE IN ANOTHER CONDUIT.
WITH A DIGITAL TEST METER,CHECK FOR 120 VOLTS AT THE BATTERY CHARGER IN THE GENERATOR CABINET.USUALLY THERE IS A RECEPTICAL TO PLUG THE CHARGER INTO.
IF VOLTAGE IS PRESENT AT THE BATTERY CHARGER AND INDICATOR LIGHTS ARE ON, CHANGE METER TO DC AND CHECK FOR 13.8 VOLTS OUTPUT FROM THE BATTERY CHARGER.IF YOU HAVE OUTPUT VOLTAGE TO THE BATTERY,AND IT IS DEAD,CHANGE THE BATTERY..

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU,BEST OF LUCK.....

Generac Guardian 15kw pn 43903 sn 4067938. Battery not charging. How do I get to the voltage regulator?

I believe the charging circuit is part of the main controller board. The board controls the relay that cnnnect the battery to supply power for start and for charging. Check to see if the relay is good.

There is no spark to the plugs on my generac 12000 watt generator,i replaced the plugs and still no spark, any help would be appreciated.

Unplug the oil sensor.
The oil sensor is located behind the oil filter. I unplugged the oil sensor and it fired right up. Plugged it back in and it runs fine.
It might be because it is cold.
I don't know why but I turned it off and it starts right up now.

I change oil today on a 27KW liquid cooled generator today. I started it let it run for 10 min. then changed oil. After oil change went to start it would not, said low battery then check battery. Repl

Was oil filter changed as well ? This may result in low oil pressure shutdown until filter is filled with oil. Is there a sump oil level sensor that has stuck when oil was drained and now causing a no oil shutdown ? The battery indicator may not be real if the battery is ok.

I have a 16kW Generac Guardian Generator with a 200 amp house service RTS panel (installed 2007). Last night the power went out and the generator started but the unit did not switch to use generator

The problem with the repair service is another matter. Emergency generator and it's switch gear are there for emergency purposes. It has to be exercised periodically. The switch gear should have a toggle switch to simulate a power outage. the switch cuts power to the sensor sensing power from the utility company. This tells the switch gear that power was lost, start the engine and switch over to generator power. Run for a period where engine reached running temperature and switch back to stand by to shut down. Do this periodically, and be grateful the event was not a disaster. Think of your back up electrical system as the spare tire of your car and similar equipment and enjoy your investment. Good people brings you happiness, bad people brings you experience !.
