adjust the valves would be my first guess.

It sounds like a carburetor issue. The jets are probably gummed up from the old gas that was in it. Remove the carburetor and clean it out with a can of carb cleaner. Then reinstall.

Your problem could be one of several things.. A bad spark plug, bad gas, failure to lower the idle and let it run a few seconds prior to shutting it off, unadjusted valves, etc. I'd start with the plug and some fresh gas, then go from there. Always idle the engine down for a few seconds before shutting it off. This allows all the gas in the combustion chamber to be burned up preventing backfire.

It sounds like you probably have a bad ignition coil. It's located under the flywheel cover and is usually attached with two screws. The spark plug cable originates from it. You can gap the new one with a business card placed between it and the flywheel.

Use a Champion N4C gapped at .030

The plug you need for a Tecumseh Enduro OHV16 is a Champion N4C, and it should be gapped at .030 . Hope that helps.

There is excessive blow- by from the combustion process which indicates worn rings /broken rings or scored bore (engine worn out or dusted). Check oil level in sump as excessive oil will also cause the problem

Check and replace the rings, might need to be bored out. If your handy then you could hone it and go up to the next size ring. If not take to your local repair shop and they will accommodate you. Good Luck...
