Gas (condensation really) may be freezing and constricting flow. Try warming the tip a bit with a hair dryer see if it goes longer.

Does it spark? Does the butane come out? How old is it, and how much has it been used? Did you put cheap butane in it at some point?

Not enough information. That's an extremely vague description of the problem. There's no way to suggest a fix without knowing more about it. Does it spark? Does butane come out of it? Is the cylinder full? Do the switches move properly? How old is it? How much use has it seen? Is it an intermittent problem, or constant?

Any butane will work, but the big name-brands are usually filtered better and less likely to cause problems. The biggest issue is the nozzle -- there are a lot of different sizes. Any Weller butane can will fit perfectly (usually cheapest at the local Sears store), but any can with multiple adapters will also work. If you have an old can that fits, save the nozzle when it's empty. It should fit a different can if you can't find a can that fits the tool.

I have the same issue. I overcame it by replacing the tip with a new one. I estimate I get about a year from a tip. I cannot tell why the old tips make the pyropen hard to ignite.

There is a bimetalic strip and a magnet that can get stuck in the closed position. Tapping the iron on the end of the bit can release it otherwise a new element will be required.

Hi, I'm not sure the tip is defective. Check that the tip is screwed in tight. If it is not good and tight the tip will not get a good heat transfer from the solder wand. Hope this helps. If the wand will heat then the tip should.

Sounds like main transformer is bad or bad connection. Unplug it and take it apart and check for loose connections. Good luck.

I am looking at my Weller Portasol P-1k unit right now. They use standard flints. Go to almost ANY store you can think of and they sell lighter fluid and flints (usually sold in a pack of 5). About a buck or two.

Yes, 9 times out of 10 its' the thermal coupler.

If this is the dual trigger Weller gun and your tips are held in place by either set screws or by locking nuts, Just loosen both of the parts that are holding the tip to the gun and then retighten them back up. Soldering iron tips that appear to be tight might not be and this will insure that the tip is indeed tight and also cleans up the connection of the tip to the soldering iron. Oxidation from heating and cooling will cause a tip to not get very hot. Loosen the tip holder and then retighten it. Hope this gets you going again. Dennis
