Hi:
Yes you can repair it yourself, the footcontrol has a micro switch that with time and use it wears out. Contact your welding sales rep or your nearest praxair store (
www.praxairdirect.com) and request the micro switch, the sales rep will ask you for the code on the foot control, that one is on the plate on the footcontrol.
Good luck,

Hi:
Code 81 mean an overload to the system, this problem occurs when the wire is not running freely from drive rolls to the contact tip. To avoid this problem do the following troubleshoot.
1) Make sure you have the right size and type of drive rolls for the wire you are using. P.e. if you are using steel core wire (gas use) you need U-grooved type, if flux core wire then you need knurled type.
2) Check your tension at the idle roll pressure setting, this one must be 3-4 if using metal or flux cored wires. Less for aluminum and more for S.S.
3) Check your liner if there is any kink on it, change it.
4) Change your contact tip if needed.
5) Check the tension on your wire spool holder, this one also must run not so freely but free enough to avoid wire nesting.
Hope this help.

Your wire must run smoothly
Engine will not idle after starting
not knowing what model you have makes it almost impossible to suggest a repair, however, your problem indicates a fuel supply problem, if your unit has been in storage, or not used for a while, and was shut down with fuel in the tank and carburetor, it is likely that you have fuel that has stratified, and turned into a varnish inside, which will require a dis assembly and thorough cleaning before it will idle, if it has been in use, it might still need complete carb clean, also check you fuel filter, usually it is something that is just being overlooked, spark plug???? spark plug wire? ignition coil air gap??
Why won't it start?
as with any gasoline engine, you need, fuel, spark & air, take a moment to follow the progression of each of them, you will figure it out: example, test your ignition switch, clean, new fuel, getting spark to the plug? do you have a fuel stop solenoid attached to the carburetor?

Mig 350mp error code 214
I went through this and lincoln said could be the feed head board but the service man that I ended up taking my machine to went through all the pin connections and tighter them all up and so far it has never coded again.
