Most of these mowers have a safety switch between the PTO switch and clutch. A safety switch or relay is most likely the problem. Hope this will help ya.

Bad electric pto and also there is a fuse up by the dash underhood if thats blown it will not start from key.

I have model 917-276900 tractor starts fine but when I engage the mower deck it blows the fuse and dies.

Check your fuse or for a broken wire( or shorted)

There is a handle on the rear of mower make sure it is not in the free wheel position. If so push it in and it should move. If not seek out an authorized dealer to test your tranny. Also check that your belt didn\'t break

Disconnect both ends of the wire and clean them with sandpaper. Also clean the battery (+ and -) starter and relay terminals. You may need to replace the relay.

I believe this one has an electric clutch. Check to see that the switch is operating properly, that the wiring is good to the clutch, and that the clutch is good. Use a volt meter to check that there is voltage to the clutch when the switch is operated.
