Kohler EFI trouble chart.

Is there grass/dirt etc.caught in the blades?

I would say that the cable has been overtightened and causing the engine to race when it should be idling. Recheck the fitting and the tension of the cable. At idle, it should be barely moving the carby throttle.

Given your description the brake actuator module is suspect. This unit has an automatic electric brake system. If the brake actuator does not fully rotate into brake set position the engine will not crank. Check for obstructions in brake linkage.

You could try disconnecting brake linkage and see if it allows for engine start. Can also be a bad pole in the PTO switch or loose connection somewhere in start engine safety interlock.

I have found that although they may look similar, with out changing brackets and adding new pulleys they will not interchange. Also decks from the same manufacturer will be different in different years.

You should be ok to clean the carburetor out clean the gas tank out and put new spark plugs or clean the plugs real good and it should crank be sure to run clean gas through line to fuel pump to be sure of gas circulation

Remove the carburettor and strip it down. It is a good opportunity for a good clean. See the videos https://www.google.com/search?q=toro+5000+inch+cut+24.5+clean+carburetor

it could be a few things but i would start by checking the wire connections at the switch to be sure they are secure and not corroded or broken. also the switch itself may be bad. check to see and replace .

Does not crank the engine? Cycle starter safety interlocks...
  • Parking brake OFF then ON
  • Both steering arms IN, then OUT
  • PTO switch ON then OFF
Try to start.

Engine cranks but wont fire?
  • Check the fuel level in the tank is higher than the top of engine.
If still won't start, comment here so I may assist further if need be.

Has dirt or grit found its way into the sprinkler. If so a good clean out should fix it.

what about them?

Toro Garden | Answered on Mar 04, 2019

could be anything from the belt to the friction wheel to a simple adjustment. you have to take it apart to see

The safety interlock system is designed to prevent the engine from starting unless: • The PTO is disengaged. • The motion control levers are in the brake position

You have to check both arm switches and PTO switch. AND somewhere/how there's a automatic park brake switch but I'm not locating in assembly drawing. If I've got the right model, you should hear the automatic brake deactivate when you pull both arms in and then set brake (default) when levers pushed out.

Make sure nothing is interfering with auto-bake. Once all the interlocks are satisfied, rotating off/run/start switch to start will energize starter solenoid.
