Hello, the setting must be "Not Activated" That is for zone 2 setup. If you are setting up 5 speakers the rear speakers should be connected to surround not surround back. Thank you Onkyo USA.

When unplugged from the wall outlet or there is a power outage, most electronic devices loose all the user programed information and the unit resets back to original factory settings. I have a Mitsubishi TV and when this happens I can get sound but no image until I reprogram the unit. Check your TV's User Manual for more information.
On the Receiver side, if you are getting Video output thru "Video 1" channel and sound output thru "CD" channel, do the following changes on the back of the Receiver:
REMOVE the RC connectors from the "CD Input" terminals L and R and, CONNECT them on the "Video 1 Input" terminals L and R. right below the Video cable coming from the TV.
This way you'll get TV Video and Sound thru the Video 1 channel.

THEY USE A MEMORY CAP.ITS LOCATED ON THE MAIN PCB ASSEMBLY, REF. C7701 ONKYO PART NUMBER IS 3000078/ WITH THE UNIT TURNED OFF MEASURE THE VOLTAGE YOU SHOULD HAVE APPROX 5V IF NOT THE CAP IS BAD. ALSO MEASURE WITH UNIT ON AND YOU SHOULD ALSO MEASURE 5 V IF NOT THEN THE SUPPLY VOLTAGE GOING TO THE CAP IS BAD.

You should disconnect all speaker connections. If the problem persists, you have a faulty receiver in need of repair. Not easy for the DIY. If the removal of the speakers allow normal operation, reconnect one at a time making sure not to short-circuit any output. By the description, I will mostly assume a bad receiver. Local repair shops can help.

I realize you may have already doubled checked but make sure you follow this from the manual:
If the satellite tuner / cable box is equipped with an S video output
terminal, connect it to the S VIDEO 3 (or 4) IN terminal with an S
video cable. If it does not have an S video output terminal, connect
its video output terminal to the VIDEO 3 (or 4) IN terminal using an
RCA-type video connection cable. You do not need to connect to
both the S VIDEO 3 (or 4) IN and VIDEO 3 (or 4) IN terminals. If
the satellite tuner or television has component video outputs,
connect them to one of the COMPONENT VIDEO INPUT jacks.
With the initial settings of the TX-DS898, the VIDEO 3 and
VIDEO 4 input sources are set for the COMPONENT VIDEO
INPUT 2 jack.
If the video connection is made at COMPONENT VIDEO INPUT
1, this must be changed at the Setup menu: Input Setup → Video
Setup → Component Video (see page 35).
Using an RCA-type audio connection cable, connect the audio
output terminal on the satellite tuner or television to the same
VIDEO 3 (or 4) IN audio jacks on the TX-DS898. Make sure that
you properly connect the left channel to the L jack and the right
channel to the R jack.
If the device has a digital output jack as well, be sure to also connect
it to either a DIGITAL INPUT (COAXIAL) or DIGITAL INPUT
(OPTICAL) jack on the TX-DS898 depending on the device.
With the initial settings of the TX-DS898, the VIDEO 3 input source
is set for digital input at the OPTICAL 3 jack, and the VIDEO 4
input source is set for digital input at the OPTICAL 4 jack.
If the digital connection is made at a different jack, this must be changed
at the Setup menu: Input Setup → Digital Setup (see page 33).

The 0-83 error indicates a problem with the firmware update. Try resetting the receiver's BIOS by following these steps2: Unplug all cables Un-Power the receiver Power the receiver Before the receiver gets into the "Enter for updating" message, press Tone + CBL/SAT + ON/STANDBY. Hello, To test the subwoofer when the blue light is on if you apply your thumb to the end of the subwoofer cable (the end that you would plug into the receiver) there should be feedback from the sub. If there is no feedback then the sub is not working correctly. Thanks, FJD

Oknkyo SKW-791 has build in amplifier. So it can be connected through Line Out Connector of sansui amplifier. If speakers out is connected with subwoofer, the circuit board in subwoofer will be blown.

You need a RCA sub-woofer cable (analog mono) to connect between the receiver's sub-woofer Pre Out and the sub-woofer. This cable has a single RCA plug at each end of the cable. Question edited to correct all the typos! Onkyo support suggested I reset the unit by holding the video 1 button while pressing power to reset to factory default, which according to the Tech will reset the Logic controls of the unit. Sep 4, 2005
