Receiver turns off

1) Return it. 2) It sounds like you have shorted the speaker wires. Redo the wiring ... and pay attention to your owners manual this time.

I am able to hear only music, but no vocal on some

Check to be sure that the speaker wires are connected the same for both channels. In other words the phase is the same. If not, then the left is cancelling out the right.

Keep us posted on what you find.

Thanks,
Dan

My tx sr503 power standby

hi,
If there is no power in your system then you have to check the fuse inside it. You can see the fuse in the board where the power code is connected. If fuse is faulty then there will be reason for the same. First of all you have to check the voltage selector. Select the voltage selector to the voltage of your household voltage. Then only power the system again.
After replacing the fuse then also there is no power then you have to chcek the standby transformer. You can see the standby transformer also in the same board ( a small pcb mountable type transformer) . To check the standby transformer is ok or not connect a multimeter in the pins of its power cord and measure the ohms. It should be bellow 2 kohms. if there is no continuity then the standby transformer is faulty. You have to replace the same. Without standby transformer the system will not switch ON or there will be no indication.

Crackling and saturation in frequency of surround speakers

I have the same tuner with the same problem. I have 2 pairs of Bose Acoustimas speakers and a pair of their sub woofers. I found it was the vibration from the subwoofers were causing so much vibration even using monster wire the crackling was caused by wire vibration at the speaker or subwoofer. if you are using twisted wire with a banana plug on the end or straight twisted wire into the speakers the constant vibrartion eats into the wire. Just pull the wires out re twist or tin (solder) the tips or move to a different location on the banana plug and really twist it will getting a bite into the wire. If you are using straight banana plugs use a screwdriver in the 4 slots to make them fatterso they stay tight. if they are RCA jacks pinch down the 4 outside tabs so they grip harder. Viva La France.

I have the Onkyo HT-S5100, the 5 speaker are set

also, you might have to search through the menu of the receiver, and set the surround back speakers to be zone 2 instead of using the 7.1 configuration that is probably default.i think zone 2 will only play sources that are hooked up with analog connects, ie. red/white cables. try using the radio to see if it works. you might have to hook up your cable/sat box, cd player, dvd player, whatever you have that you want to listen to with both digital and analog cables to get everything to work right.

first: make sure you have the audio output setting on the ps3 set to digital optical outputsecond: make sure you select whatever the optical input is assigned as, probably dvd. i think there is a button on the front of the receiver that says digital input, make sure you hit that. A little light on the front screen of the receiver will say digital.

What size of a subwoofer can this receiver handle?

any size your room can handle. The 503 has a pre amp output for a subwoofer, meaning the receiver/amp doesn't power the subwoofer. Most home theater subwoofers are powered, meaning they are a combo sub, amp. The size of the subwoofer should be determined by room size, and space restrictions where it is going.

Our dvd has no sound

Any digital source must have its input assigned (page 31 of the manual). The DVD player has a role in this, too. Try another cable or input.

If you have the manual, crack it open and follow it's advice for your symptom. Then look at every indicator and control to evaluate how it fits into your desired listening experience. UNDERSTAND the receiver or you will forever have issues with losing the 'sound' because a seldom-used control got touched by mistake.

Register and download the manual for free at retrevo.com

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Onkyo-TX-SR503-Receivers-manual/id/365ag216/t/2/

If you still feel a reset is necessary look at page 57 or search the document for "factory defaults".

To reset the AV receiver to its factory defaults, turn it on and, while holding down the [VIDEO 1] button,

press the [STANDBY/ON] button. "Clear" will appear on the display and the AV receiver will enter
Standby mode.
