How to connect Sony dvd player to onkyo TX-8511 receiver
The TX-8511 is an older AV receiver with only composite video inputs. Your DVD player may not provide this type of output as it's not capable of HD video. If your dvd player has a composite output with a Red, White & Yellow set of outputs, that will connect into the Video 2 inputs on the receiver. Your TV will need to connect up to the Video2 or Monitor output. You'll need a set of composite video cables with the red-white & yellow RCA type plugs.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the problem...
One speaker? Why would you have one speaker attached to A or B? A and B represent speaker pairs and are driven by the same two amps.
It's also not clear if you're saying the speaker is failing or the channel. You CAN swap them to find out.
Either way, the amps are common to both speaker pair connections so if only the B pair isn't working at worst you have a switch problem.

As far as the TV audio goes... unless it is the primary source of the audio (tuned through its own antenna and available no where else) why don't you just run the actual primary source's (cable/sat, whatever) best digital audio straight to the Onkyo and skip the middleman that adds nothing to it but expensive unnecessary cable hops.
I'd also run each video sources absolute best video straight to the TV for the same reason.
My Onkyo TX-8511 reciever is
Did you check the right left fade dial to be sure its not turned all the way to the right? If it is centered and still doesn't work, then you might try selecting a different connetion. Usually stereos have an "A set of speakers or a "B" set. Whatever they are on now try connecting so that they are on the other one. If they are on "B" now switch to "A" or vice versa and see if that corrects it. Hope it works!
Onkyo 8511 FM reception has
yes their is but you would need a local man to do it this is not something you can do yourself ,also of course it depends on the fault as some faults may cost more to fix than the set is worth .try a length of wire just pushed into the aerial plug and if its still the same then ask a local man but if its all microchips inside then it cannot be repaired very easly .could just be a broken wire on the inside of the set from the aerial socket to the board ,something right simple and a two minute job to repair
My tx-8511 receiver often runs
It seems any one of speakers got defective that are attached with this receiver. Hook speakers one by one to find out what speaker is causing problem and creating heat in receiver.
Thanks.
