Hi Grip the carseat on the underside of the front lip, push the button in and lift the front to recline / push down to put in a more upright position.

Just did it. It took two of us, but only a couple of minutes and no tools (except a table knife) once we'd worked out what the problem was. The reason the strap doesn't thread easily through the slot is that there is a sprung two-part mechanism that needs to be held open. One person threads the strap through while the other keeps the mechanism open.

Person 1:

1) Find the slot under the chair that the strap goes into - turn the seat upside down; it's a thin gap you can feel with your fingertip when you run your finger along the narrow back of the metal strip under the front of the seat (not the base).

2) Remove the metal rod that attaches the grey reclining lever. The rod is about 20 cm long and can be pushed out without tools. Removing this rod seems to make it easier to open the buckle mechanism. When replacing the rod later, you just have to line it up carefully with holes (we used a torch to help us see them)

4) Push back buckle as far as it will go (it goes back past vertical easily, then needs another firmer push,

5) Hold the buckle in this backwards position.

6) Insert a table knife (rounded and blunt, not sharp) into the space under the buckle and push back the sprung, hinged plastic part that the knife touches at the back.

7) Person 1 then threads the strap back through the slot, pushing until then end comes out.

8) Tie a knot in the end of the strap so you don't accidentally pull it through again!

9) Replace the metal rod in the reclining mechanism.

10) Done!

Hi Lorna - Most commonly this issue is caused by dirt/debris getting caught in the tensioning strap of the harness and gradually pulled into the mechanism of the carseat over time. First recommendation is to remove carseat from the car and remove cover (do not remove harness system from seat) give the carseat fabric and the seat itself a clean and see whether this improves the recline situation. It's not possible to loosen the belts of your Tobi?In this case you may need a repair of the quick-adjuster (the part where the buckle is attached to) or it may be appropriate to exchange the quick-adjuster.Because this part is directly affecting the safety of the seat I would advise you not to try to repair it yourself; please visit a Maxi Cosi dealer to have it serviced.I hope this helps.Erwin de Raadwww.babycare.nl

HiIt isn't recommended that you take apart the plastic shell of the carseat. You can remove the fabric from the carseat to wash it and then clean the shell with warm soapy water but it is not advisable to remove the harness or to take apart the factory seal of the shell.Have a look at www.maxi-cosi.com and select the country you're in, then choose the Tobi carseat and select the instructions to view directions on how to remove the fabric.

Take hold of the headrest and lean it forward (toward the front of the carseat) then you can slide it up and down to wherever the harness needs to be for the best fit for your child.

The shoulder straps should be no more than 1 inch above or below the childs shoulders when correctly adjusted.

Hello In some countries Maxi-Cosi do have service centres where inspection & repair is possible. You should contact your local Maxi-Cosi office (Facebook or via Maxi-Cosi website, "Contact Us" option) They will be able to advise you.

Hi Maxi-Cosi do not produce the adapters for the carseat to be used with Mamas & Papas chassis. Adapters would be designed, tested, approved and sold from Mamas & Papas. If the adapters do not fit the carseat they need to investigate this for you. The CabrioFix carseat is only one model and regardless of date of manufacture all Maxi-Cosi adapters for CabrioFix are the same. (For using Maxi-Cosi carseat on Maxi-Cosi pushchair chassis)
