That was just the beginning as the success of such devices spawned a host of power controllers and dimmer switches in steps or continuously with just a single control. You could construct such a device from one of the many available project circuits or buy a power controller ready built. A good one is not cheap but should last a long, long time. This is not something normally seen on a fan, unelse it is a run or start capacitor used on a high horsepower industerial fan.try www.graingers.com for industrial fan partsif you can make do with a garden variety generic capacitoryour local radio shack should have a 6mfc @350vac with 5% tollerance. tolerance means that the 6 mfd capacitor can vary by 5%,either up or down and still be acceptable.
