The new battery may be really dead (discharged). Please leave battery out for a while and then put it back in and plug in the power plug. (Do NOT push any button on the camera) Make sure the camera CAN CHARGE the battery first. Typically one Green LED lights up and another one flashes. If it does this then WAIT until the battery is fully charged.

Your SD Memory card is locked, you need remove memory card and move small switch on card.

Since you have neglected to tell us the make and model of the tripod, this can only be a generalisation - broken down into easy steps for you. 1) unclip the Q/R plate from the tripod head. 2) screw the Q/R plate to the base of the camera, using the tripod threaded socket. 3)re-attach the Q/R plate to the tripod head. BTW, when using the camera on a tripod, use a remote control to prevent camera movement.

many small Nikon cameras have memory to store images ON THE CAMERA. If you have a memory card installed that the CAMERA CAN READ it will put images on the card. if the memory card is corrupted the camera will not use it. First Backup all IMAGES on Memory Card to COMPUTER make sure you saved ALL images. This is IMPORTANT. After you SAVED all images you PUT Memory card back in camera and FORMAT it (Format is in TOOL Menu that looks like a wrench) Now if you can take an images and it saves to memory card you are done. To see if they go to MEMORY CARD. Turn off camera and remove MEMORY CARD and Check. If it STILL does not work you may have a defective memory card.

Unlikely, but possibly two dodgy batteries ? Are they gen Nikon or replacements ? Other cause might be electronics issue with camera, or bad connection between lens and body - have you tried cleaning the contacts ?
