Vizio P2 42 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television - Page 8 Questions & Answers
I have a vizio vp422hdtv10a i have sound but no
Hi!! I got problems with my Vizio 42". Have sound but no video. I replace the video logic main board and fixed the problem but a few days later the same problem came back. Before this I also replaced the backboards. Any help from someone?
No power
Sounds like a failed or at least failing power supply / power board inside the TV.
Unfortunately this is a very difficult repair, and unless you are an
electrician I would not recommend attempting it. You will need to
contact a local TV repair person in your area. If you think it may
still be under warranty please contact the manufacturer to file an
RMA. If you happened to purchase the TV with a major credit card (not
a debit card) there is a good chance it may still be under the free
extended warranty most credit cards place on electronics. Please
contact your credit card company to inquire if they do this, and they
will be able to file the claim and get you a refund for the TV.
So sorry that I don't have better news but it is definitely a power issue internally.
Thanks
Tim
Tv has power going to it but want turn on
Check power supply, look at all compositers make sure there not bulging or damaged.Look for corusion on top of the compositers. If you find any they have to be replaced.Alot of times you can here a compositer if you have the tv plugged up while the power is connected it will make a small faint hissing noise. But you have to have silence to notice this.
My 42 inch Vizio lost
hi
according to your description it seems like you have like 9/10 post on this site a power suply
defective board and nothing to do with boxes
if you are handy with tools you could find the printed part# on the board and find it on ebay
I have a vizio modle
Wow, if you had more than one component fail, which it sounds like you did, you are in for a whole of hurt so to speak... Chances are many components in the TV either failed at the same time (due to the power going out from the power board and probably "frying" other components), or at least we affected by it. Most likely you will have some major issues with the TV even if you get it back up and running.
Wait I just re-read the problem, you said you had no problem with power, and then you say "now i have power but no video" which indicates that before you didn't have power.
Please confirm, do you think you have more than one component that has failed?
Thanks
Tim
Stuck in RGB input.
i imagine your problem is over by now one way or another, but for anyone else experiencing this problem, thought i would share. your rgb input is tripped and needs to be reset, there are multiple things that "may" fix this, but the sure fire method is to connect a laptop to the rgb input, make sure you change your display settings on the laptop to "external monitor" and change the monitor selected in display settings on your computer. When the TV recieves a signal (which is what it is wating on and why it is frozen) it will then allow you to change input and will not turn off. Make sure your computer is running and all display settings are set before turning on tv so it does not time out and shut off before you can get it to pick up the signal
My P42 keeps turning itself
Hi,
Disconnect the power supply for few minutes, say 30 minutes and then turn ON the TV.This would reset the TV. If you still see the same problem, it confirms a hardware failure.
As you could hear a clicking noise, it is more suggestive of a power supply problem. This a common problem on most of the Vizio's TV. You need to open the TV. Locate the power supply board. You would be able to find blown / bulged / leaked IC's. Take them out and re-solder the new one. ( you could get the caps from radio shack or even from fry's ).
I am pretty sure that it would solve the problem. If the problem still persists, revert and we could troubleshoot further.
Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
I have a vizio 42 plasma model #vp422hdtv10a when
I am having the same problem with my 42" vizio tv. When plugged in the standby light is on and when turned on the light switches from orange to white, however there is no sound and no picture. I am hoping to find what is wrong with it so i can get it fixed. Or atleast by the correct parts! I have only had my tv about 2 years
No picture no sound
if you tv turns on and you just dont get image of sound you maybe having some problems receiving signal from antenna/cable. If your tv DOES NOT TURN ON at all, perhaps you hear a clicking; then your main power supply is bad.
Vizio TV no picture, it
Vizio panels are especially delicate when it comes to under or over voltage spikes, I would say that the LCD panel has failed and will probably cost approx. 80% the cost of a new television, I have experienced that Vizio TVs are a tuff one to get service on in my area, so you might call vizio direct and talk with one of their service reps.
GOOD LUCK !
Vizio TV does not power on.
It sounds like the power supply went, if you want to try and remove the rear panel, you can check the fuse on the power supply, and also visually inspect it for any bulged capicators, or burnt components.
I'm diagnosing a Vizio p42 plasma tv and cannot
Hello.
You can forcefully remove plastic top of capacitor to expose metal surface - it won't damage anything. If metal surface is bulged - capacitor is 100% bad. If it's flat - then you need ESR meter to check it, but they rarely go bad so I don't think that problem is originated there. It's takes lot of knoweledge and experience to diagnose plasma TV properly.
While ordering from Digi-Key you can narrow search by choosing "680 mF", "250V", "DC", "Electrolytic". Anything that fits all of above will do. Chose part that is actually in stock, not on back order.

Our 42" Vizio Plasma TV lost it's picture
Hi,
Y-Sustain or Z-Sustain boards failure is common problem in plasma tv and when any chip like regulator or any high current drain chip got failed on above said boards, it gives pop sound.
Visual check is necessary to examine what board got damaged. Local tv repair shop will help you in visual check.
Shop Jimmy is one of good source for Vizio plasma replacement boards, click
Shop Jimmy and select model number of your tv that would be written at back of tv and find out required board and get it replace to get tv back in business.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.
While using my remote to change channels, it lost
If you didn't press mute or some other feature that turns your sets volume down. It could be your audio amplifier chip has gone bad. If you have a theater system or some kind of gaming system plugged into one of the RCA jacks try unpluging them. If your set has a earphone setting and you accidently set it to earphone mode check it and put it back on speaker mode.
Partial blacking / shadowing of the screen
Sounds like the backlight inverter board is going out, or possible backlight ccfl going bad. The inverter board can be replaced but the actual ccfl's may not be able to, depends on the repair shop's in your area.
Ihave sound, but no picture.
There is a problem with the video logic board. You could take it to a repair shop or diagnose it yourself with a multi-meter looking for blown up capacitors/burnt parts.
