Make sure your buttonhole lever is all the way down (I think it probably is, if you it will sew some of the buttonhole), and also sure that your bobbin winder is not partially engaged. In other words, make sure it's all the way to the left.

Sounds like the feed isn't properly working, which can possibly be fixed by taking off the needle plate (=thread plate), and thoroughly cleaning around the feed dogs. However, with the pattern you mention, it sounds more like some teeth have stripped off a gear, which would be a "take it in for repair" problem. You can only oil modern machines on the moving parts that you can see.

You mark the fabric where the holes are to go, insert the button in the foot, snap on the foot, set your stitch dial to button hole, lower the button hole lever and GENTLY push it back. Put your fabric in the machine aligning the marks you made. Hold the thread ends and start the machine.
