How to fix a hook & timing issue on singer inspiration 4205?

I would over ride the auto setting and trial and error the process by manually turning the tension my self, also it has to do with the fabric too, sometimes whatever fabric is being used tends to regulate the tensioner too, good luck

My machines stitches backward instead of forward.

There is a forward and reverse switch you are missing. If you have a pedal it is a matter of pushing the pedal the right direction.

Buona fortuna

I have a singer inspiration

I think you have to position the new presser foot under the shank then drop the presser foot lever down as if you were beginning to sew. This should snap the new presser foot right on. Be sure the little bar is positioned under the hook.

Here is a copy of your manual.http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/498_4205_4210.pdfMost modern machines have snap off and snap on feet. Grasp the foot that is on there and push down. Then while lowering the foot, align the little bar on the zipper foot and watch it snap in. Easy.

The needle is hitting something

Insert a new needle, and make sure that it is inserted all of the way with the flat side facing away from you. If, that doesn't work, it is probably the timing. Then you need to take it for service. Hopefully, it is new and you have a warranty on it, if you have to take it in.

I just received a singer

It is not your presser foot, you must mean the feed dogs, they are what moves the fabric along. Clean and Lubricate your machine. Remove the bobbin case and clean it out. Replace your needle now Totally rethread the machine, according to your manual. Test the threading by putting the presser foot up, pull on top thread, it should pull smoothly, now put your presser foot down, the thread should barely move. This will seat the thread in the tension discs. By the way, try your tension on 3. Also, make sure that your presser foot is down before sewing. Always move the handwheel towards you, never away from you because you will mess up the timing. You will see your feed dogs move if you watch. Download a free copy of you manual at www.singerco.com and save it, plus enlarge the diagrams. If, that does not do the trick call Singer at 1-800-4singer.

The stitching on the back of the fabric is loose

These are th problems typically caused by:

Improper path for the top thread.
Debris around the bobbin case.
Or a timing problem requiring the machine to be serviced.
