if it is during vacuumming carpets it may be static electricity generated by the plastic head over the carpet if it happening n hard surfaces , take it in for a safety check as there may be a loose wire touching metal and causing you the shock

Why do you need to get to the motor ? I would recommend taking it to your local vacuum store for advise before opening it up

Sorry to say that the batteries seem to be worn out. Usually this is caused by using it for to short a time each time you use it. Batteries develop a 'memory' after several short time uses, and can only be charged the time it 'Thinks' is a full charge. You can try running it until it almost stops. Then let it sit for about an hour turned off, then turn it on again, and run it till it almost stops. After doing that put it on the charger for 8 hours. Then run it until it almost stops again. then charge it again. That process sometimes breaks the memory problem. If not, you need new batteries- or a new dirt devil.

What do you mean by it stops working? Does the motor stop running, or does the motor keep running but it stops picking up things?

Hi, I really use the same vaccum and I'm very fussy! What I like to do is read pictures that came with it so you get familiar with it. There are only 4 or 5 parts that you need to take apart to keep it working like the day you bought it. They do unscrew, and you can see the build up every time you vaccum. Like I said I'm fussy, you can clean it, take it apart every 4th time you use it, but watch the build up, I get a lot from my large carpet. My hole house is carpeting, and dust is always on it, where it comes from, I don't know ! So try it out, and let me know how the pictures in the book help, its very simple, watch and see. Most cleaners are fitted with at least one filter and they do rob them of suction. Some people remove the filters to improve the suction. Perhaps your cleaner has one or more filters missing.

I would go with the cord first. If it is defective it is usually at the plug for the wall as it gets the most stain.
