One note is the power plug going into the radio appears to be atypical in polarity. The center appears to be negative ( - ) instead of positive ( + ).

Radio Shack sold the same radio as the DX-390 and parts may be gotten from there.

Your set is not switching on and you will need to check on the power switch on circuits. Have to check if the battery voltage is going to the porcessor , please check around this stage for any signs of dry/bad soldering, use a low wattage iron to touch on , but be very careful , use a multimeter to probe the voltage in the circuit hoping to find a damaged component.check the crystal freq input. test the signal track and move on. if not your processor could be defective. By "external antenna not working" I can only assume that you can't receive any SW or FM signals. Does AM work OK? If so it's likely that your receiver still works but the AM uses a different and internal antenna.

If it's still under warranty then return it to your point of purchase and ask for another one. If it's out of warranty (which I suspect) there is probably not an economical repair. If your external antenna is broken in some way the only place you can get a replacement for it would be Sangean. Typically those manufacturers only provide parts during the warranty period. That is illegal in many states. Most states require manufacturers are required to stock replacement parts for five years after last production. This is one of the brands that tries to hide from the consumers if there is a problem. This is unfortunately the case for many overseas products. If it came from China then it's shipped with no warranty. The seller has to take the hits for defective products.

Unplug AC adapter from radio. Remove ALL batteries. Wait 15 min. Reinstall batteries

If it worked before, and you could tune SSB, the BFO switch is probably broken.
