Make sure you get the make and model of the tv correct. You are asking about a 31.5 inch set and calling it a 52 in TV.

Hi ! I have same problem than you. My Sony KDL52NX800 Shuts down irregularly and turns back on. My store upgraded the firmware to the latest and it still continues. Did it again today and don't know what to do next.

Problem is irregular, store cannot see the problem when it appears and i don't want to loose my TV again for 2 weeks. Did you finally find a solution ? I may call my service store again this week, because my TV is still under warranty...

In all Sony LCD sets, there is a on screen menu selection that gets you to a page that has a contact number for Sony and the software version that the set has. When you get into that menu, you can call sony and see if the software version is the latest. If it is not, they can send you a memory stick with the updated version and directions on how to do it. If you have a internet hook up with ethernet capabilities, you can hook up a ethernet cable to it and it will allow you to make the software upgrade using the tv's menu to down load it internally.

have you tried to replace the batteries in the remote yet if so then the remote is bad try radio shack for a replacement remote.

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV. Here was the problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired ofcourse) and found four bulged capacitors on the PSB. Many major electronics companiesPhilips/Magnavox, Sony, Panasonic, and others were sold capacitors that failedin 2-5 years instead of 10-20. Thecapacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in allsorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems. Here are some options for you. 1. Have it fixed by a professional $$$$$$$??????? (Is itunder warranty?) Remember, TVs CONTAINHIGH VOLTAGE AND CAN KILL YOU! Do this at your own risk. 2. Open your TV and find PSB. (The board that the power cordplugs into) Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad capsreplace the entire board. The entireboard costs around $250 right now because they are in high demand right now.They can be found online. I woulddefinitely shop around though. 3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill. Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourselfit will save you hundreds. This may be your problem. If tv is still under warranty then call Sony for warranty cover as problem seems with tv screen (lcd panel) that will be replaced.
Out of warranty lcd panel replacement would cost you approx 80% of new tv price so check warranty papers of tv and call Sony for warranty cover.

Do a reset to this TV, and then check. There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset.
