My MR701 Telefunken TV set does not want to switch on with its remote control.When I switch of the plus nad then on again. It switches on and a sign with the key and wording MENU appears after few seconds it switches off again.Some times it does swtch on with a universal remote. The red light where the sensor is keeps on lickering when its on standby.Under normal circumstances it stays red without flickering when the TV set is
on standby. Please help.

Check the power supply regulator board. Replace it if necessary.

It sounds like the captions for the hearing impaired is active, get remote and select menu, scroll down to captions, right arrow 1,2,3,4,off, make sure cursor is over off and press enter on your remote and should restore normal function to the set, some remotes have the caption button that is separate from the menu.

This is the best solution for your problem as a 40 year experience with wires etc. Go to the source of your cable signal connector . Open it and clean the terminals with emery paper , sand the end of the cable shiny clean from corrosion , get a new barrel connectors with gold terminals if possible lengthen the ends of the cable , insert and tighten good, use thick rg-16 or rg 40 cable with good insulation ends crimped professionally with a crimpier or buy ready made , not from dollar store. Get a gold plated professional splitter if you need one or two , it will cost about 15 or more each . Make the cable runs as short as possible, using the thick good cables. If needed get a signal magnifier. From radio shack or the source etc. Connect them good and tight . Ground the splitters . Problem solved , you will get crystal clear channel 2 to 7 including 3 and 4 . Isolate the TV cable from other cables and power wires. Vitally

Sometimes if the screen was affected by magnets it will fade. you could try placing magnets around the screen and moving them around, BEWARE you could make it worse. If it dosent fade youve had it........Sorry
