If the unit works with the disc inside, stop it from trying to play. Reset to default (except parental setting): (from page 23 of the owner's manual) Press SETUP in the STOP MODE to enter the menu. Select 'INITIALIZE' then press OK. Select 'YES' and press OK twice. Press SETUP to exit the menu. Suggestion: You could do a "power reset" - unplug the unit from the wall socket for approximately 10-15 minutes, then reconnect. Sounds like your laser mechanism is no longer capable of reading a disk. If it does it with other disks then you can be sure of the diagnosis. And due to parts cost and labor a repair is usually not cost effective.

You cannot Format DVD-R.. To Format you have to use DVD-RW.

The only thing you can try and is a long shot, use a DVD cleaning kit and follow instructions, if this fails! the problem is in the laser pickup assembly and cost to repair can not be justified.

Check power supply. Check the fuse. If it isn't blown, check all components within this board, including the IC regulators (however many this model uses for PSU - should be marked IC1 or similar reference) - check for short-circuit/open-circuit/leakage. Also check all of the electrolytic capacitors - some may have leaked. Check resistors diodes etc. for shorts, leakage or open circuit. Also go over the entire board for dry solder joints too - just to be sure, and re-solder any suspect joints. If the power supply uses a transformer, check this for open windings, particularly on its primary side (the side facing the power cord), most switchmode power supplies use a chopper transformer which can sometimes fail.

If you are in any doubt, you can always get a second opinion. It may or may not incur a fee. But either way, patience plays an important part in this. You should not need to buy a new player - fingers crossed, that it's something simple.

I would go on the net and google region hack dvd, you should get some info , have done this myself for a few dvd's.

well I have some good news for you . You can go to E bay and find that part with no issues. I just found it on there , just put in the part# and you will see .
