I burned out my external

The Printed Circuit Board ON THE Harddrive inside the Seagate FreeAgent, or the small PCB inside the Seagate FreeAgent's external enclosure? (Case)

If you are referring to the small PCB that the Harddrive connects to, and has the USB cable coming from it, just buy an external enclosure, and install the Harddrive into it.

If your Seagate is like the one in the link above, it has a laptop size Harddrive in it, and it is a SATA unit.

2.5 inches across in width. (2 and a half inches)

This is an example of a 2.5 SATA external enclosure,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3195233&CatId=2783

IF you are referring to the PCB on the Harddrive itself, good luck.

One method would be to buy another harddrive like the one in the Seagate FreeAgent, and use it's PCB so that you can retrieve your information.

Then reinstall the PCB on the new harddrive.

I have a free agent

While i was sitting here trying to tell you in a nice way that dropping a hard drive will probably kill it, i was distracted by a "You have mail".
A site I buy from sent a email offering a 1TB hard drive for $60.

That seems to be a good price for the cheapest solution, to replace the hard drive.
If you are not up to opening up the case and replacing the drive, they have a 1TB external hard drive for
$99.00.

If you are keen in playing around with hardware you could get an external case and try your drive in it, on the chance that the drive is not dead. You may be able to get one for $25 but I would do it only for the exercise, not with any hope of success, and would not wish to offer you any hope of retrieving your data.

I understand how you feel, the only consolation i can offer is that external drives are getting so cheap you can have two, with two copies of data you don't want to lose.

I am sorry to sound pessimistic, please prove me wrong.

Hello, I just bought a Seagate Free Agent Go 1

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge" guarantee.

Connect it to a different computer. If it still is not detected, then there is a hardware problem. Exercise the warranty to get it repaired/replaced.

Seagate freeagent desktop 9nk2-al510

It varies depending on the operating system. You can create a Linux mint DVD and boot that without installing. It will take a moment as it is reading the OS from the DVD then see if you can see it, if so it is OK, if not something is bad or set wrong in the USB hardware system.

Seagate Service center in the philippines

You don't need a service centre. Take the drive out the caddy and plug it into a working computer using a SATA to USB cable. If the drive is functional then you'll be able to read it. If the drive is dead then you'll need to get another drive.

External hard drive won't start up

assuming that "wont start up" means that the drive letter is not visible thru windows explorer/my computer, which is already installed and booted from an internal hard drive... the seagate drives, often, require a patch to work with some windows installs- especially if it is larger than 3 terabytes, and occasionally, if larger than 1 terabyte. if this is the case, the patch is most easily obtained by emailing customer service. if this is not the case, please provide more specifics as to your computer, your version of windows, and exactly what it is not doing when you say 'not starting"

Hard drives are easily damaged when dropped and cannot be repaired. You need a new hard drive. There are companies that can recover data from faulty hard drived BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services..

What are the parts called - Data connection plug broke off inside freeagent external drive

You can try installing the drive into a new enclosure as long as the internal circuitry of the free agent did not alter the formatting of the hard drive. IE in a buffalo external drive the internal circuitry creates a linux partition on the hard drive that cannot be read by windows directly.
