How to downlaod software to lock hard disk

The software is already on your computer - check the settings in the properties. If you are unsure how to use these settings, there is ample "help" available by simply clicking the button.

When you lock this up ... you will be putting a password on it. If you forget the password, you will no longer have access to your hard disk - you need to fully understand this before you go on. If you are not sure, DONT DO IT.

The easiest way to secure your external drive from others is to disconnect it from your computer.

Thank you for your question @ FixYa.com

My toshiba hard drive doesnt

test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty: make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty" ?

even something as small as an electrical extension or a faulty fan lead can cause this problem follow the troubleshooting procedure a computer needs all of the data and electrical current to travel through every device and to have an end to be able work properly

a motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive check all electrical extensions make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd drives need to have current go through make sure these devices are working

also check your computer ram and cmos battery to make sure they are securely seated and the battery has plenty of charge

hope this helps

I have a TOSHIBA STOR.E

Hello,
insert the drive into another laptop or computer and observe if it is going to bring the same format message.
Your new laptop is asking you format the hard drive because it is sensing some kind of virus on the hard drive. Apart from that, some laptops would like you to format an external drive if it is their first time of receiving such drive. There is no trick to this.
All you need to do is to insert the hard drive into another computer, copy the content of the hard drive into that computer, then insert the hard drive into your new laptop, then format the hard drive and you can now copy the files back into the hard drive from the computer you copied it to.
Lastly, if possible, you can copy the content of the files into a computer that is running windows XP. Windows Vista and Windows 7 has too much protocol and security. Such windows will ask you to format a drive.
I hope you understand my message. If you don't please let me know so that I can explain further.
Good luck.

Hii i have toshiba HDDR320e03x

Have you tried to uninstall it from your device manager? When you do that, scan for hardware changes, it might pick it up. Also, try moving it to a different usb port after you uninstall from device manager.

I dropped my external hard drive one day and i

I am sorry to hear that. Hard drives have very sensitive moving parts that move require a very high degree of precision and tolerance. As such, they are very susceptible to shock. By the way you describe your problem, it sounds as though there is physical damage to the disk or head. "Rattling" noises of any sort from a hard disc is never good. If there is physical damage, there will be very little you can do yourself I am afraid. There are specialized services that deal with data recovery from physically damaged drives, however they are very expensive.
Here is a link for you if you are interesting in the inner workings of a hard drive. http://www.howstuffworks.com/hard-disk.htm

My portable Toshiba 320gb Hard

Unfortunately, this usually means you have some type of hardware problem. If you hear the drive spin up and just never connect to the computer, you are in better shape than most. The usual tricks to get around this are as follows:
  • Plug it into a different USB port, preferably on in a different part of the computer. The motherboard's USB hub might have flaked out.
  • Unplug it from the computer over night and try again later on. You may have tripped a thermal fuse on the USB line and sometimes they take a bit to reset.
  • If that fails, then remove the disk from the enclosure and hook it up to a machine with a free port. If you don't have one, I use Aprocorn DriveWire 3-in-one Disk interface to get on loose hard disks.
Unfortunately, there's really not much that can be done other than this. Good luck.

Does this happen ONLY when connected to your computer,
or does this happen when connected to ANY computer?

If the former, it could be your anti-virus software that is scanning the entire contents.

If the latter, then the Toshiba itself could be the problem.

I want to erase everything

If you aren't sure what you're doing, bring it to a service tech or you may render that external hard drive completely useless:
Before you start cleaning make sure you back everything up onto another disk. If you are giving your computer away check with the person or organization to see if they plan on cleaning your hard drive for you. However, the best thing to do is to clean it yourself.
Download a hard drive cleaning program or go to a computer store that sells computer software and buy the program. This is the safest way to make sure the hard drive is all wiped clean. Running the software program over writes all the data on your drive, making the hard drive impossible for anyone to read. The software works by over writing the drive many times.
Make sure you give yourself plenty of time in wiping your hard drive clean because if you have a lot of stuff it will take longer to clean.
Once your running your program and the box comes up to erase your hard drive don't forget that this process is irreversible. You will now type in the word format drive letter and hit confirm that you want to erase everything on your computer.
Installing a new external hard drive if you are not getting rid of your computer, is another option you have. You still go about erasing the old drive because you're getting rid of your hard drive. Install the new one.
