I had the same problem, the only fix I could find was to press later when you dock the archos to the docking station so you view from the archos not the tv.hope this solves the problem

The serial number should be either written on the back of the tab or in the battery well. If you remove the battery the SN number may also be located underneath that. Hope this helps!

I would suggest you follow the manufacturer's instructions when it comes to the firmware upgrade.
I know it can be pretty hairy on most devices if you're upgrading it's OS.

you are in the recovery screen most likely because theres a problem with the hard drive, do you have a option to format the drive, if you do, do that, and it should work after that, if not, your hard drive is probably bad and you may have to replace it to a new one.

Windows 8 is and has been obsolete and unsupported for over 8 years. Time to update your OS. Linux is excellent, Ubuntu Mint is free and easy to use, the choice is yours.
