LOST WIFI SECURITY KEY WORD
If you have lost your WEP/WAP wifi key phrase there is no way to recover it except go into the router administration settings and see if it is in plain text there. If not then you will have to make up a new key phase and apply it to ALL your connected devices.
In future, write the key phrase down on a piece of tape and apply it to the bottom of your router. You can use a hint instead of the actual phrase.
I use the memo function of my cell phone to keep all my passwords and keys.

Here is a step-by-step article which describes how to install the wireless adapter in Ubunty Edgy.The download link for the zip file is outdated, but you get it from here.You don't have to register, there is a link saying "Skip Registration" and the download will start.Let me know if you have any problems.
You will need to install the drivers for the wireless adaptor. The flashing blue light simply indicates that there is activity (communications) with a wireless access point. You can find the drivers for it here;
This is a USB wireless antenna. If you install this on your computer you will have the ability to access the internet without having to plug into a LAN (Local Area Network). Now, this does not mean that you get free internet, unless one of you neighbors is broadcasting a wireless signal and has left it open for everyone to Bogart on. It just gives you the ability to wirelessly connect to any wireless network that you have authorization to access. Your own for instance. Set up in your own home. The coffee shop, the bookstore, mcdonalds, etc.
Here is a link for the support driver if you need it. Don't forget to rate this solution high for me please.

Your wireless adapter, the one in your laptop, the laptop we know nothing about because... well who knows why you would withhold that vital bit of information, all I can do is speculate, and speculation is usually counter-productive, and I answer questions on this board to be productive, so what I am getting around to say is that the aforementioned wireless adapter, the one in your laptop, needs to be 5 GHz capable. I would know this if you cared to tell us what make and model of laptop you have as opposed to just the router which we know is 5 GHz capable because you told us. Of course, by posting in the Wireless Network Adapter forum, you can assume that we can look at your post and inherently know all the information about your problem because we are "experts".
This is a simple, USB based network interface card (NIC). There's little to be changed as it is built with tiny surface mount devices that can not dissipate heat nearly as well standard through hole components can. Boosting voltages, etc will only shorten the life of the device.Locating the NIC closer to the WiFi source will improve throughput of the device. If this is not possible, increasing the height or physically reorienting it may provide some gain. The easiest way to do this is to purchase a simple USB cable that will connect to the computer's USB poert and accept the WNA1100 on the other. These cables are often available at electronics and computer stores in 3, 6 and 12 or more foot lengths for under $20 (and significantly less online). I would not purchase or connect lengths greater than 15 feet, as this is the maximum length supported by the USB standard without some sort of active repeater built in to the receiving end. By placing the WNA1100 at the end of the cable, you are free to orient it in the best position to maximize capture of the WiFi signal, regardless of the position or location of the computer.Good luck!
