El1210-09 won't shutdown

Step 1: Most people who own an eMachine computer will find that they will need to reset the computer at some point. It is a fact that PCs are more prone to viruses and malware than Macintosh computers. Sometimes the only way to restore an eMachine is to simply reset it. Fortunately, it is not a difficult process to reset an eMachine computer. Turn off the computer. If the computer is in a state that it can be properly shut down, follow the normal shutdown process. On the other hand, if the computer is not reacting to anything, simply pull the cord from the wall. Restart the computer. Plug the computer back into the wall and press the Power button. Wait for the eMachine to reach the screen that reads "Press F11 to start recovery." Once this screen appears, press the F11 key on the keyboard multiple times to make sure that it registers. If the recovery screen does not come up, you will need to turn the computer off and back on again and attempt to press the F11 button again when the prompt appears. Select the proper option. After the recovery screen appears, there will be a list of recovery options. Scroll to the option that says "Full System Restore (with Backup)." Choosing this option will copy all of the contents of the hard disk to the c:\\My Backup directory. This will ensure that important files that have been created on the computer will not be deleted. However, the applications on the computer will need to be reinstalled. Allow the system restore to run its course. Depending on the age and effectiveness of the eMachine computer, it is possible this process could take up to 45 minutes. When the system restore is complete, the computer will restart itself. Reinstall applications. Any of the files created on the computer should be saved. However, the applications that created them need to be reinstalled. b>

EL1210...when starting up u see first messages but when finished u don't see main user windows to select user on screen and enter your window...its blank/dark..could it be the video card?

It could be... But check to see if updating the video card's drivers fixes it... Restart your computer and keep hitting F8 once every second until the boot screen comes up. Then select - boot in safe mode with internet. Your computer came with a NVIDIA GeForce 8200 video card so go here for the latest drivers and download them:http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-usGo into device manager and remove the old drivers for your graphics card. Then install the new drivers.

I don't know how to download cd's and dvd's on dell EL-1210-09

What do you mean download cd's and dvd's? You don't download them, you simply put them in the drive and play them. If you purchased a music cd or a movie dvd that you want to play or watch, then just put it in the drive. The system will recognize it and automatically open Windows Media Player for you to play it or you can open it yourself if autoplay is not active. Exactly what is it that you are trying to do? If you are talking about putting a blank cd or dvd into the drive to copy music or a movie to it, that's another story and will take a while to explain. You will basically need to make sure your CD/DvD drive can burn CD's or Dvd's. Then you will need some type of burning software (later versions of Window Media Player will burn). Click Start/My Computer and look at your devices. if your DvD/CD Drive is listed look for RW which means rewritable (it can burn or copy). If it say DVDrw it can read and write dvd's. If it says CDrw it can read and write cd's. You can also look on the drive door on the computer where you would place the cd or dvd. If it says Rewritable CDrw (it can write cd's) or DvDrw (it can write dvd's). If it says ROM (read only media), that means it can Read Only and not write. If the drive is rewritable then the software such as Media Player will allow you to go find what you want to put on the cd or dvd. You have two ways of putting things in the software to burn or write. You can copy and paste, or you can drag and drop.

The network card went bad.

This model has a PCI-Express x16 and a PCI-Express x1 as detailed here

I'm not sure which one you have available... if you're not sure then see the user guides here to verify.

Once you have identified the correct slot type you should be able to source the correct card from any good computer store. Alterantively you could go for a USB network port.

Please take the time to rate this answer.

Many Thanks Don.

My computer will boot, I

Hello,

try to unplug and plug the cable from monitor to your pc, this is a problem of a connection. If it does not help, try some other cable which is working on another computer.

Flashing tower light is not a problem, it probably starts flashing just because of you are not doing anything on your computer, so it turns to sleep mode.

Hope this helps,
Lucas

Where is hdmi hookup on emachines model el-1210-09

It's not a very good picture but, the HDMI port is below the VGA port, on the right of the S-video port and, just above the keyboard and mouse ports. It looks very much like a USB port but has angled sides and not rectagular. I'm guessing you'll get audio out of this with HDMI but, I wouldn't get my hopes up with a Nvidia chip. You may have to live with on board sound.

Fan is too loud

Every computer comes built with a processor cooling fan system. The fan's main function is to keep the processor from overheating. After long periods of use, processor fans can start to malfunction. If your eMachines computer's fan is excessively noisy, it will need some maintenance. If you don't deal with a noisy fan promptly, your computer's processor could overheat and cause significant damage to your motherboard as a result. WARNING: Before you start troubleshooting remember that you are dealing with electricity that can KILL. http://www.kitchentablecomputers.com/static.php - rules Only work inside the computer case when the power has been switched off and disconnected. Never open the power source. Some of the below steps recommend removing physical parts within the computer. While in the computer it is highly recommend that you be aware of ESD and its potential hazards. Power down the computer. Disconnect all cables and peripheral devices from the computer's back panel. Rotate the computer so the back panel is facing you. Lay the computer on its left side. Remove the Phillips thumb screws that fasten the right side access panel to the computer's frame. Remove the side access panel from the computer to reveal the motherboard and all internal components. Locate the cooling fan assembly near the center of the motherboard. Remove all Phillips screws fastening the fan to the motherboard. Disconnect the fan's power cable from the motherboard. Then lift the fan out of the computer. This will reveal the processor chip. Place the fan on a flat work surface with the label sticker facing upward. Use a thin, flat-head screwdriver to peel away the label sticker from the fan. This will reveal the access hole to the fan motor's bearings. Apply one to two drops of lightweight mechanical oil into the fan motor's bearings. Replace the fan's label sticker. Use a can of compressed air to spray the dust and debris from inside the fan blades. Place the fan back into the motherboard on top of the processor chip. Replace the retention screws and reconnect the fan's power cable to the motherboard. Replace the side access panel and its two retention thumb screws. Place the computer tower vertically, and then reconnect all cables and devices to the computer.

You will most likely have to remove the HDD from the chassis to access the RAM. Most eMachines utilize either tabs or screws to remove the drive. If you can post some pics of the inside of the chassis I can assist further.
