This device does not have the phone fuction, but you can still use some kind of 3rd party VoIP client for voice commucation. As the device is equipped with the Wireless LAN fuctionality.

to test the scanner I would suggest to download and install the Datawedge application. It is an desktop installation. As you will connect your MC55 to the Desktop per Active Sync the application will be installed also to your MC55.
The DataWedge aplication will activate the scanner and the decoded barcode is sent as usual keypad input to the system. The application is running in background, if you scan a barcode a pop-up window will come up. Or if another application is running it will send the input to the application.

The barcode is probably not enabled in factory settings. I would propose to use the manufacturers software called DataWedge, provided at support.symbol.com and check again. If you still have no luck try to find out which kind of barcode is it, by the producer and enable it in the settings of the software. Or better just select the option "Enable All" in the Basic configuration of DataWedge

DataWedge is an Application provided by Symbol/Motorola to enable the scanning module also for application without the driver. Scanned barcode is sent like an usual keyboard input.
There can be just one active application using the barcode scanner. If you are running DataWedge, you would need to stop it before starting any other application with built-in scanner drivers.
To stop DataWedge just click on the barcode icon in a right down corner and select - Disable DataWedge

If you have an cradle for the MC55, you could connect it with an PC and use some kind of remote control software to kill the application and then erase the autostart entry.

all I have are questions about this printer 2007 , 14 years old!!!! no PC told NO OS told(windows, chrome, android, Linux or version did you ever sees this printer work ever, or this year>? are you asking why just the printer turned on files or why the first installed software fails to communicate to the printer. if just found a printer in a garage sale and **** it home what would you do. Id read the manual no 2 are the same of 10,000 printers so read how to reset the printer first. in its settings. directly many printers that do 2 ways to connect ,Ethernet or wifi must be reset to change that mode. the connect ethernet is best saving wifi horrors. wire is best or USB if offered. the load he software from the maker web site and set that up last. now it can print, this is a generic answer based on 2 decades of printers made. specific the manual shows 5 ways to connect page 25 https://www.servopack.de/support/zebra/Z4Mplus_Z6Mplus.pdf it says USB is always working,no magic hard settings (us it) so get that working first then migrate to Ethernet later. my wild wild guess is this is bought dead printer day? and you failed to reset it first or the actual printer is dead. dead dead, call for service tech to fix it. printers are complex. business grade it is. wireless is an optional board. the ethernet inside is a printer server type, and is and optional upgrade, too. and must be setup carefully.
