Check your drain hose to make sure no water from the sink is draining back into the dishwasher. If it is,re-hook the drain hose up high under the sink. Next. Start the dishwasher without dishes or detergent. Once the fill and was cycle begins, open the door and por in 1 quart of WHITE vinegar and resume the wash cycle to completion.
Try this solution first Push the Hi-temp and then push the Sani-rinse. Go back and forth multiple times on these two buttons. I found that after a handfull of pushes that a "1" came up on the display. I continued to keep rotating the two buttons and then a "2" came up on the display and the dishwater started it's "drain" phase. I then hit cancel to clear and then I selected the cycle I wanted. The washer started up just as normal at this point.

I had the same problem but I found someone wh said that there is a way to reset the dishwasher. I tried it and it has worked so far.
Here is what I did.
Push the Hi-temp and then push the Sani-rinse.
Good luck!
If it is doing when it is washing, then it likely to be a problem with the pump, but it might just be 'hunting' because the filters are partially blocked. There is the filter that you can see easily, but there is a fine filter underneath that blocks with fine grey lint.
Water left in the bottom can be caused by that because the drain pump is past the filter and is on a timer.

To open the Kenmore World class dishwasher, follow these means:
Press-and-hold down the "Sani-Wash" button for somewhere around three seconds until the showcase screen counts down from three to nothing. The red "Lock" Drove ought to now douse and you ought to now have the option to get to each of the buttons on the control center.
If you're experiencing an ERR code and flashing lights on your Kenmore dishwasher model 587, it indicates an error or fault in the dishwasher's operation. Unfortunately, without specific details about the error code or which lights are flashing, it's challenging to provide a precise solution. However, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:
1. Check the owner's manual: Refer to the dishwasher's manual for a list of error codes and their meanings. It should also provide troubleshooting steps specific to your model.
2. Power cycle the dishwasher: Turn off the dishwasher by unplugging it from the power outlet or shutting off the circuit breaker that supplies power to it. Leave it disconnected for a few minutes to ensure a complete power cycle. Then, plug it back in or switch the circuit breaker back on.
3. Check for obstructions: Inspect the dishwasher's interior, specifically the spray arms, filters, and drain pump, for any obstructions such as food debris or foreign objects. Clean or remove any blockages that you find.
4. Run a diagnostic cycle: Some dishwashers have a diagnostic mode that can help identify the cause of the error. Refer to the manual for instructions on how to initiate the diagnostic cycle.
5. Contact customer support: If the issue persists or you are unable to determine the cause of the error, it's recommended to reach out to Kenmore customer support or a qualified appliance repair technician. They will be able to provide further assistance and help resolve the problem.
Remember, the specific steps and options may vary depending on your dishwasher model. Consulting the owner's manual is always the best course of action when troubleshooting appliance issues.
Unfortunately, that sounds like a control board issue, although if you are lucky, it is just bad connections _to_ the control board.
They are expensive so need correct diagnosis by a tech. Then you get warranty on the parts and the job.
