Dishwasher fills with water. then hums but dosen't clean
Sounds like water-level sensor is ok as it stops filling then 'hums'. I'd (carefully) check the connections to the connections between the level-sensor and the wash motor start relay. Could be motor is bad or something is causing it to become 'jammed'. Before you begin opening the appliance, I'd attempt to vacuum out the water or try putting the control in the last position to cause it to try to pump out the water.
Dishes are not clean at the end of wash

Hi
Dishwashers use Bi-Metal strip to allow the dispenser to open/close. This strip when heat up causes the soap door spring to open up the dispenser. If this strip is not heated doesn't allow the door to open. The strip may not be getting 120V or maybe disconnected. Kenmore dishwashers use a wax motor to open the soap dispenser. The plunger inside the wax motor slowly moves and pushes the plunger and door open.
And, if this wax motor doesn't receive 120 volts, then it'll not work. Please check the voltage to the wax motor/Bi-metal strip; also inspect the connections to these. Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

I'm just wondering how much
Water level can depend on the model and manufacturer. The water will fill to the level of the float switch. This is a plastic looking thing near the front of the dishwasher along the tub bottom that looks like and upside down cup. The water level reaches a point to where the float lifts and activates a cut-off switch which will stop the water from filling, followed by the wash cycle beginning. Now, depending on where the heating element is located, the water level is usually just touching the element and not necessarilty covering it. Does this help you? If you still have questions, let me know.
Serial number location
usuall the model and serial plate is l;ocate d al;og the top of inner door panel or the inside of teh inner rim of tub itself
Dry Dishwasher Soap Still in dispenser after wash.
so here it is...
get a screw driver (you may need a "star" head driver as well), get in there and take out all that you can and clean it (it all comes out pretty easily)...you will find a lot of undisolved soap and hard water build up...rinse it, scrape it, vacuum it...just get out as much as you can...keep note of how you took it apart so you can put it back together...then put 1/2 to a whole gallon of vinegar in and run a cycle (hi-temp if you have that option)...if it was like mine most of your sprayers were gummed up and the water just wasn't moving through the machine...
to avoid this problem...use half of what you have been using of your detergent...and only fill the "pre rinse" section if you are doing pots and pans....and then only fill that half way as well.
after that run a few cups of vinegar through on an empty cycle once a month...
whole job (not including the wash cycle) 1.5 hours...

Sorry to take so long getting back to you. Go to searspartsdirect.com and type your complete model number in the "Search by Model Number" window. Follow the links on the next page. You can also try repairclinic.com. The website offer competitive pricing with one of the other usually having the better price. The Sears website offers helpful parts diagrams. If you have any futher questions, please let me know.
NOTE: There may be a possibilty that you could have damaged the part you already replaced. It is recommended that you replace BOTH components at the same time. They are available as a SET on both websites I believe.
NOTE: Make sure your exhause ducting is clear as well before starting the unit or it will overheat and do the same thing.
