Perhaps you check out master 'power supply' and find bad 'capacitor' (usually). Click sound is because 'stand by power' is fine.

My Yamaha RX-V465 will not stay on. It seems to short out every time and nothing else is hooked up.

If it is not working even without any cables attached, you can check the connectors (especially the speaker ones) for little pieces of cable strands which might short-circuit the connectors. If nothing like that is found, the short-circuit is inside the receiver and you should contact service center for repair.

I have a Yamaha Rx -V465 AV receiver When turn the system on it will not stay on. I switch outlets it would do the same.

First disconnect all speaker cables and all input cables (optical, HDMI, everything expect power). If receiver powers off itself immediately even without anything connected, it is faulty and you need to send it for repair. If it works without cables, then you probably have bad cables and/or short-circuit in the speaker connection and receiver is turning off to prevent damage. Double-check your connection and that no speaker "+" cable has a contact with any "-" cable or connector. Even one little strand of cable touching the opposite polarity connecter is enough to cause a short-circuit.

IS YAMAHA AMPLI RX SERIES RIPP OFF

Maybe the problem is with your speakers. Shorted speakers or speakers that are being over-driven can cause the receiver to shut down and possibly be damaged.

While on vacation my daughter

If you suspect a setting was changed why are you tampering with the cables?

Get into the manual and go through every setting. Troubleshooting sections usually help. If it's just the Cable Box audio look at IT. Assign the port. If it's ALL audio start with the test tones.

In the display it shows(decoder off) and not able

I sense two different problems or one not completely described.

The followinbg would address the decoder issue.

It partially depends on what it is you're trying to play or how you like to hear it.

Check the Direct Mode Button and make sure it's not activated. (M on page 4).

Straight Mode (L on page 4) is a desirable starting point for multichannel material.

See page 24 of the manual to see all the things this beastie can do with all of the audio inputs.

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Yamaha-RX-V465-Receivers-manual/id/23270ag803/t/2/

Be advised that most commercial multichannel sound sources have been pre-mixed by the originators to provide an intended 'feel' and 'space', so modifying it might not be an improvement although it can provide a novel change. Like any spice, a little is best.

I find that processing 2-channel audio through the various DSP modes can make for some interesting and arguably pleasing effects.

If you 'search' the document for the word "decoder" it may lead you to a setting that's out of place.

"Not able to play music" should only happen if you have a source incorrectly chosen or the source is DTS and the decoder is off. Undecoded DTS will sound like high-level digital 'hash' noise because you're hearing the raw 'data' so it must be decoded to turn it into audio.

See the note on Page 2 regarding DTS-CD's then look at Page 33

I hope this was helpful.

I have Cerwin-Vega speakers that are 4 ohms, what

You can set the speaker impedance in the Advanced menu. See page 45 of english manual (it can be on different page in other language manual).
In standby mode, on the receiver (not on remote!) press STANDBY/ON while pressing and holding STRAIGHT button. THe "ADVANCED SETUP" should show in the LCD display. Now use PROGRAM +/- buttons to navigate the menu. Select "SP IMP." which is speaker impedance setting. Press STRAIGHT to select the correct value. Options are 6ohm and 8ohm. 6ohm setting means 6 and less, so select this option. Now you can turn the unit off by using STANDBY/ON. Now when you turn it on again, it will use these new settings.

I just purchased a Yamaha RX-V465 AV Receiver, and

Also the test tone is working OK (Setup / Speaker Setup / Test Tone)? Have you used automatic speaker setup with the supplied YPAO microphone?
For HDMI, you need to configure the receiver to "take" out the audio from HDMI. Go to Setup / Function Setup / HDMI / Audio and select "Amp" to route the audio to receiver, or "Amp+TV" for audio to go both to receiver and to TV. You can also check in Options Menu / Signal Info that receiver has recongnized the sound and what format it thinks it is in.

We have had this system for more than 6months. We

It can be either problem with the receiver itself, cables or your speakers. You can try different combinations to narrow down the issue.
1) Also the radio does not work?

2) Try to run the Test tone to the speakers (Setup / Speaker setup / Manual setup / Test tone). If you hear the tone, then the issue is configuration problem with your inputs.

3) If possible, try to connect headphones to the receiver. If that works, it can be issue with cables/speakers or their setup.

4) Try to run the Automatic Speaker setup with YPAO microphone. It will eventually fail, but will provide you error code, which you can lookup in the manual for different reasons.

5) Try disconnecting all the cables and reconnecting them again, possible trying left speaker with right cable and right speaker with left cable.

My Yamaha rx v465 has

Check the settings on your source device, it may be set to send audio as PCM over HDMI, you need to set the audio output on the source device to bitstream or raw.
Note if you are using the original PS3 you need to leave it on PCM as it can not bitstream the HD audio from Blu-ray(the new PS3 slim can do this).
Also Check your PC is really output 5.1 or 7.1 via hdmi.

Had amp instaled with Yamaha YST SW 150 sub

What happens if you try only the rear speakers without front?
The amp is 105 W per channel, but as most AV amps, it cannot handle 5x 105W at the same time.
The only thing I can think of is impedance issue. Are the front/center/rear speaker of the same impedance? You can set the speaker impedance in the advanced menu (page 45 in english manual), but all speakers must have the same impedance (8ohm or 6ohm).

My video and audio guts

Hi,
It seems Samsnung bluray BD-C690 is causing problem because other dvd player gives correct video/ audio output in same gadgets setup.
If Samsung bluray is under warranty, call Samsung to fix it or replace it.
If unit is out of warranty then tyr alternate solution, plug it directly with tv in other HDMI input and check if it gives correct video/ audio output. If bluray output is fine then you can plug its sound output wire in Yamaha receiver to get surround sound.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

Yamaha AV Receiver RX-V465 picture but no sound.

Check the settings on receiver in the SETUP menu / HDMI / Audio. Here you can choose Amp (sound goes from the speakers connected to receiver), TV (receiver is muted and sound is routed via HDMI to TV) and Amp+TV (sound goes from speakers and also to TV).
Also check in OPTION menu / Signal Info that receiver is receiving sound in recognized format.
