What System Restore not working. Gives a volume shadow copy timed out error when trying 2 create a restore point. if i try 2 update windows or create a system image it goes days not going anywhere.??

If system restore not working you can always try to do a repair operation with the disks that came with your machine. If you have no disks you are out of luck and will have to reload the machine with new software. If concerned about losing data/files you can remove the hard drive and install it as secondary on another working machine, download the files you want to a usb stick and reload the hard drive and re install the files you previously saved. Good luck

Battery that controls the date and time when booting up

There is a 3.3 Volt button battery on your motherboard, that powers the BIOS chip so it can remember the current date and time. If you replace that battery then set the time and date the computer should no longer default back to 2008. To remove the battery press the small metal clip towards the edge of the battery, the battery will then pop out. Simply press the new battery into place. Make sure you are able to see the writing on the top of the battery for the correct polarity. If you attempt to do this yourself be sure to unplug the computer than press and hold the power button for about 4 seconds to de-energize the motherboard. Should you not feel comfortable doing this any repair shop should be able to do this repair while you wait as it takes generally less than 2 minutes.

I cannot find the specifications for an EMachine 1161-05 desktop. Just want to know if the motherboard will take a PCI sound card.

According to NewEgg it has one PCI slot, but already in use. CNet mentions a modem. This may be what is using the slot. Remove the modem if not in use.Simplest way is to open it up and verify.

Transfer your data over from the old hard drive to the new computer

The easiest way is to connect the old hard drive to an USB adapter case and make it an USB external hard drive. Connect this to the USB port on your new computer, the computer will see the external hard drive as an External storage device. You can then open the various folder on the hard drive and copy the files to your new computer. You can delete all the unnecessary folders and files off the old hard drive and use it as a backup storage device.

What does BOOTMGR missing mean?

What version of windows do you have? Vista or 7 & you could run the startup repair from a Windows CD.You might also boot into your windows repair console & at a command prompt type "Bootrec /RebuildBcd"Attempting a system restore might also be an options. If none of the above work then I'm afraid you may need to try & backup what information you can by slaving the drive in another system & reloading your operating systems. Any windows cd that is the same version of your operating system will work as long as you have the CD key on the side of your computer.

What to do when you get no signa on the monitor and the problem is not the monitor since it works on another computer

The problem is in the video graphics card or the motherboard in the computer, but that is providing that the unit powers up and everything else appears to be running, the ram memory should be subbed out one at a time because it will cause the same symptom.
