How do I reset my Linksys WRT400N Router to

Reset There are two ways to reset the Router's

factory defaults. Either press and hold the Reset

Button for approximately five seconds, or restore

the defaults from Administration > Factory

There should be a small hole with a red circle around it on the back of the router next to the power plug hole. Use a pin or straighten paper clip to push the tiny button.

Hi,
Welcome to FixYa!

For you to be able to do that, you will need to set the SMC router to bridge mode, you will not be able to do that by yourself because only tech from your ISP have the capability of doing that since they have this tool that can operate on the router setting it to bridgemode. Basically, you will need to call your ISP to set the router to bridgemode and from there, you will be able to configure the linksys router.
Hope this information will help.

Your response is very much appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa!

Cannot connect to internet though cable modem

If this is a new wireless router, make sure that the ethernet cable going from the modem to the router is connected to the right port on the router. it will be labeled either internet or WAN. Then, make sure that you unplug the modem for about 30 seconds to clear out it's memory, then plug it back in. If the router is not new, then try holding the reset button on the back or bottom of the router in while you unplug and plug it back in. This will reset the router back to the factory default and you should be able to connect.

I keep losing internet connection

Try reflashing the router, the firmware is available here: http://homedownloads.cisco.com/downloads/firmware/WRT400N_1.0.02_Build_11.bin
If that does not correct the issue, try physically moving the router away from any sources of heat, as that can also cause the issue.

What is a WEP key for a Linksys WRT400N wireless

The WEP encryption key (network key) is in your wireless router, without this key the wireless router won't allow the computer or laptop to connect to this wireless router.
I recommend you use WPA or WPA2 encryption, it is much stronger than WEP.
The WEP, WPA, WPA2 encryption key is in your router's wireless settings. Log into your router and got to the wireless settings, you will need to get the SSID and the encryption key. Then go to your computer or laptop's wireless card and configure it with the router's SSID and encryption key, so it will then connect to the wireless router and the Internet.

To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

An important feature of SES (the 15 character password) is wireless security...if you are using wireless adapter and if you are not aware of the wireless settings of the router, at that point on the wireless adapter software you may find SES button... once you press that button, wireless security on the router would change to "WPA" and adapter will automatically pick up the "WPA" security from the router...
You cannot use SES and WPA2 at the same time. SES will only activate once you push the SES button on the adapter or sometime in the router assuming you dont know the WPA2 security, but if you do know the WPA2 no need to use SES (15 character password).

Wrt400n connects via ethernet cable, but won't talk wireless

you said every thing that connects with the ethernet is working. that means the wired part of the router is working. check the wireless settings of the router. Open the set up page of the router on the main computer. connect the main computer to the router with the ethernet cable.
change the wireless settings of the router.
WRT400N is a dual band router ( 2.4 GHZ and 5 GHZ)
You can create 2 different wireless networks. Make sure that the names (SSID) will be different for both the networks. For 2.4 GHZ change the standard channel to 6 and save the settings.
Go to wireless security and set the security mode to WPA Personal. set up password for the wireless network. You can use the same password for both the networks. Make sure that the Wireless MAC address is disabled.
Now try to connect to the new wireless network. and see what happens.

As long as you have a 802.11n wireless card, all you should have to do is setup the router and configure your network. Enable WPA2 encryption to ensure maximum performance of -N
If you don't have a 802.11N wireless card yet, then that is an upgrade I would suggest.

I recently upgraded to high-speed DSL, and am

My friend, current technology does not allow for these speeds via wireless. Wire is rated at 100 (cat 5) or 1000 (cat 6) while wireless is 10. Your Linksys will communicate with your modem device at the higher rate, but the wireless will be slower.

To get the 1000 speed, all devices attached to your 1000 rated network will have to be rated 1000; computers, printers, routers, etc. You must also use category 6 or higher cable to get that speed. If you have any device on a 1000 rated network that is rated at a slower speed, everything will slow down to that slower speed.

I am not a wireless fan for two reasons: (1) Speed (2) security. Normally, distance is not a problem - Current technology allows for a 300 foot radius circle around your router (perfect circumstances)

Now then, the salesman may tell you something else and there may be another question catcher come in and tell you something else. My comments are based on my own personal experience while operating my own networks.
