Hangs up often. I shut it down every day after

You need to check that the actions it takes after an "unrequested" or incorrect shutdown isn't "Start" or "Previous State". This function is in the BIOS.

Profile storage space exceeded

Hi there

This issue happens if the Maximum Profile Size limit has been reached. Quotas shouldn't be enabled on a home PC (assuming it is one).

I have written two solutions that should do the trick. Please try them in this order.

Solution 1
  1. Go to Start > My Computer
  2. Right-click the C:\ drive and choose Properties
  3. Quota tab (if there isn't a Quota tab, go to Solution 2)
  4. Untick Enable quota management
  5. Press OK
  6. Restart the computer
  7. Is the problem fixed? If not...
Solution 2
It appears to me quotas is still enabled by error. I have made a registry key for you that should fix the problem, and have uploaded it to a temporary online file host. You will need to get your daughter to download this file onto her computer. You can download it yourself and e-mail it over, or give her the link. Choose the Free download option when you get to the site please. Please get it soon as I'm not sure how long they will store it. This is the full link if you need to give it to her: http://rapidshare.com/files/267431665/QuotaNill.reg.html

Once the file is downloaded, ask your daughter to double-click on it. A message will appear asking for it to be merged into the Windows Registry. Accept the message.

Restart the computer. If the problem continues, restart the computer and try to shut it down again. Is the problem fixed?

Please do not rate this reply unless I have solved your problem or your reply will not be returned to me. Thanks.

My cd compartment won't open.

You can manually open the door using a straightened paper clip inserted into a small hole in the door. Press firmly and the door will be released. You may have a CD stuck in there, or you may need to reinstall the driver for the CD. Or the CD drive may have failed...at least the control part that opens and closes the door.

I have a vostro 200

You seem to have hit the nail on the head. It seems like you shorted either the PSU or the motherboard. Fortunately, if it was the PSU, there is a fuse which would've protected your other hardware. If you managed to short the mobo, you're looking at purchasing a new one from the manufacturer or a thirdparty. I personally believe you fried the motherboard, however; it is unlikely the fans would spin at all if the PSU was shot. Good luck, and remember to use latex gloves when handling these things; I've often done the same thing.

Hi, my Dell Vostro 200 monitor isn't working; when

Your monitor is most likely fine. That message is the monitor telling you it's not getting any video signal from the computer.

If you're hearing all the sounds that go with a normal startup (usually a beep from the motherboard, then hard drive activity, finally the normal Windows startup sound through the speakers), and seeing that message, then you may have a monitor problem. You can try another monitor as a test.

The trouble is probably that the computer is turning on, but not actually starting up. This may be due to power supply, memory, processor or motherboard problems. Or one of the drives or expansion cards connected to the motherboard may be keeping the system from starting.

Make sure the memory modules are firmly seated in their sockets, and disconnect everything else but the power supply. If the motherboard, processor and memory are working, the system will start and you'll see something on the monitor. Then you can start reconnecting parts and see when the problem returns.

Dell vostro 200 boots up, screen images distort

Ok 1 your problem is overheating.

It can be one of 2 things..

1.) check the heat sink for dust particles.. *inside the computer you have to open it.. its a large metal thing with fins),,m use a can of air and blow out all extra dust.

2.) the second is your harddrive. Its eighter defective causing the sylinders to stick, or its over heated so much its burning out (also) a defective issue with the harddrive. Also open the system and touch the harddrive.. If its hotter to the touch.. Like almost burning hot.. then this needs changing.. When you change it,, you will need to reinstall our os and all other software.

let me know what your test reveal

1 beep every 3 seconds

The system is having a problem accessing the system memory to refresh it, a problem either with the system memory or with the motherboard itself.

Blue screen - Session 5 initialization failed

Hi

Yes, your going to need the windows installation cd or recovery cd for the computer.

if you have the windows installation cd here is how to perform a repair install, all the files(pictures documents etc) will remain on the computer hard drive.

how to perform a repair installation

this is for xp, but its similar on 2000 and on vista.

insert your Windows XP Setup CD, and restart your computer.

1.When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

if not then the computer is not set to start up from a cd, you can either enter the setup / bios to change that setting OR right when you power up the computer look at the screen it will say what button to press in order to enter boot menu or bios, it will very likely be button F12 or similar, it should say on the screen when you power on.

if it doesn't, then you need to go into the bios and change the boot order so that the computer starts from the CD first.

after that you should be able to start from the cd and install the OS (Operating system, eg.Windows)

here's some info on how to work the bios: http://www.whitecanyon.com/how-to-change-boot-order.php
(click the link to visit another page with instructions)

Repeat step 1 when you have changed the boot order.

2.Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen.

3.Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.

4.In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.

5.Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.

6.Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

7.Ones windows is working you will need the drivers for your computer, they are at the makers website,
hp and compaq. www.hp.com
acer http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/downloads.html
Dell www.dell.com and so on.

I am acting as middle

If you have tried Safe Mode but cannot finish loading Windows then either you have a very serious virus issue or your hard drive has become corrupted. Normally Safe Mode would give you the opportunity to try and resolve the issue or possibly remove any data you need to back up. As you haven't been able to load it you have two choices on how to proceed.

A) If your daughter has her Windows Installation disc she can try and do a Repair Install. This would be accomplished by booting from the Windows disc. After some initial loading you would get a menu asking you if you want to try and repair the existing install or start a new one. She would then choose Repair and Windows would attempt to repair the install. Depending on the problem it may or may not work. If your daughter did not receive a copy of her Windows installation disc she can contact Dell support and request that they

B) PLEASE NOTE THAT EITHER OF THESE ROUTINES WILL WIPE OUT ANY AND ALL DATA AND PROGRAMS YOUR DAUGHTER HAS ADDED TO HER COMPUTER.
If your daughter's computer uses Windows XP then there is a Restore image hidden on her hard drive. To access this, boot the computer and as soon as she sees the blue bar with www.dell.com on her screen she needs to press CTRL+F11 at the same time. This will start the Restore process.
If your daughter's computer uses Windows Vista, she would use the Dell Factory Image Restore. To access this, boot the computer and as soon as she sees the blue bar with www.dell.com on her screen she would need to start pressing F8 until the Vista Advanced Boot Options Window appears. She would select Repair Your Computer and then follow the prompts.

If she has data on her hard drive that she cannot lose, and the Windows Repair Option doesn't work for her, there are Forensic Data services available in most cities and on the Internet. These services are usually quite expensive, so she would have to way the cost against her need to save the data.

Hopefully this information will assist her in resolving her issue. If you need any clarification, or further information, please let me know.

Bluetooth & sound

Generally, connecting phones via bluetooth to a laptop just allows for file transfer between the two devices. It is not to input sound from the phone through the speakers of the laptop. You would need a bluetooth audio device for that such as bluetooth speakers or headphones
